  1. Strong words, but I’ll be dammed before I trust a politician tugging on my emotional heartstrings.

  2. Unfortunately SF budget proposals and policy I looks more and more like a late 2000’s FF budget every year, (Cut tax and increase spending everywhere), if Marylou gets into power we could be looking at many more people heading off to Oz for work.

  3. Speech soundbite set to emotional music, SF social team know what they’re doing.

Edit: I have a bad feeling some for ye think this is a good thing, emotional manipulation is seedy as fuck

  4. Will there be more jobs paying Australian-like salaries under SF rule? Specifically post-tax salaries.

I don’t think many Irish emigrated because of the Australian housing market or welfare state.

  5. Nice sentiment but no explanation of what policies will be brought in to ensure that the people she’s asking to return will have access to decent affordable housing, childcare and healthcare.

  6. To the Sinn Fein social media people you should of slapped in Binary Finary as the backing track for that speech.

  7. Oh you silly Sinn Fein people how dare ye try to *checks notes* attempt to combat the conditions that are making young and talented people leave the country.

Real talk here whose policies have resulted in these people leaving? Hmmm I wonder?

  8. Been living in Australia for 12 years but I’m heading back at the end of the year. Getting a permanent visa if you aren’t a tradesman or software engineer/developer is extremely difficult.

Even working in an understaffed industry, my options have run out. Maybe pre-covud I’d get sponsorship, but now it’s just a pipedream.

Honestly, after the anxiety and stress that come with temporary visas for 12 years, I’m relieved to go somewhere I “belong”.

  9. I’m pro SF, but I’ll keep my Australian house that I actually own thanks very much. Meanwhile, my mates back home in their mid/late 30’s struggling to find rentals let alone afford to buy.

  10. Honestly I think that’s sort of genius. I could be wrong but I don’t see FF FG speaking to emigrants at all? Instead Leo is telling us that Ireland has the lowest youth unemployment in Europe because 15k Irish moved to vancouver this summer alone.

I left Ireland in 2017 to move to Canada and I would love to move home; but my healthcare is free, my wages are double and my rent is worth every penny for the size and location.

  11. I just got my citizenship in Australia and honestly it was kinda heartbreaking. I know I’ll never move back permanently even though I miss feelng connected to my home culture.
I tried to move back once and for seven months my wife and I were fucked around by the same greedy employers and shitty landlords that drove me out.
Her eyes were opened and it made us appreciate what we have over here.

  12. Why is this being posted on r/Ireland?

It’s just a sinn fein promotional video. Do people actually give a shit about this sorta stuff in politics.

  13. I’m sorry but the moment I hear a piano note being played in a video my mind springs to “Am I being emotionally manipulated?”. Invariably the answer is yes.

  14. Work hard, enjoy the sun and then come home… to avail for SF’s third tax band for “high” earners.

    Nah, you’re alright.
