Those quoted in the eye-grabbing headline are “a Tory insider” (‘batshit’) and “a supporter of Ms Mordaunt’s campaign” (‘bunch of shits’).
> Boris Johnson watched the result on the TV in his outer office in No10 to little fanfare. But a Tory insider said the Prime Minister will be “loving this” because it fits his narrative that it was a mistake for MPs to ditch their prized election-winner.
> “Boris gets to ensure he’s the election winner and the Tories lose all his gains,” the insider said.
That “insider” sounds awfully familiar with Johnson’s viewing habits.
The rest is a little more prosaic, though there is mention of Sunak being
> expected to make a very personal pitch to Tory members around the themes of “the importance of family” and “family” [which] might be interpreted [as a] very thinly veiled jibe at Ms Truss’s personal background, raking over an old affair she had with a married Tory MP nearly 20 years ago
It’s the first hint I’ve seen of the appearance of past sexual improprieties on the part of Truss, which have been rumoured as a campaign item since the start of the contest.
In other campaign news, Dominic Raab [pointed out](https://twitter.com/DominicRaab/status/1550779132908298240) we live in a divided country, with a broken economy, ruled by a government no-one trusts, while Sunak [also highlighted](https://twitter.com/AnnelieseDodds/status/1550735992872734721) the dire state of the economy he has delivered, but also drew attention to his government’s failures on the NHS and immigration.
I guess the argument there is: “if I can steer you up shit creek without a paddle, I’m probably the best one to steer you out again” or something like that.
This is gonna get messsssssy
God I thought the bottom of the shitty barrel had been scraped last time ,looks like we can go lower .
We haven’t even got the new leader yet and I can already hear a “told you so” from Tugendhat
With all the moderates long gone, there was never going to be a proper fresh start. You were going to end up with either someone like Truss, Patel or Dorries, representing the socially right; or you were going to end with someone like Sunak or Javid, representing the rich. The Tories cannot really offer anything else, not with the likes of Rory Stewart having left the party years ago.
we, the public also want a fresh start. maybe we can deport every single mp to rwanda?
enough mps are convinced its acceptable after all.
Wish I didn’t live here so I could watch this shit show and laugh
Boris underestimates how petty the Tories are. I remember Michael Portillo and Ken Clarke attempts at becoming Tory leader. Petty personal squabbles matter more than country or even party for the Tories in parliament it seems. How else could you explain that Ian Duncan Smith was once a Tory leader.
Always was going to be these 2 the old guard dont want change.
