Even the monarchy doesn’t want a new royal yacht. But Liz Truss does

  1. Without dwelling too much on this ridiculous posturing from Truss (who once [wanted to abolish](https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/liz-truss-monarchy-bashing-bbc-newsnight_uk_62d8ba89e4b03dbb991467fc) the Royals, or so she said at the time), I’m more interested in what happened to [the £50m reportedly left by Sir Donald Gosling](https://archive.ph/eT78A) just for the Royals to spend on a replacement yacht.

As I [wrote up previously](https://www.reddit.com/r/unitedkingdom/comments/ot7cun/uk_royal_yacht_could_cost_taxpayer_50m_more_than/h6w7l0r/), this has been in and out of the news since 2016, when the cost [was estimated](https://hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/2016-10-11/debates/A35B4CBD-3DFE-4BB7-B9C4-BB9E99422890/RoyalYachtBritanniaInternationalTrade) at £100m.

The imagined price steadily climbed until we reached peak yacht at [£250m in July last year](https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/jul/28/uk-royal-yacht-could-cost-taxpayer-50m-more-than-initially-said).

Maybe the £50m drop since then is due to Sir Donald’s contribution?

  2. This is what happens when you have two PM candidates who need to curry favour with a very small clique of weirdos ie members of the Tory party

  3. That’s the tax savvy party for you, they sure like spending taxpayers money, but not paying taxes themselves

  4. She spends money like nobodies business.

Michael Lambert on youtube did a good video today where he talked about (some) of her outlandish spending.

  5. It sounds good to royalists too. They must think the royals need more yachts, at a time when children are going to bed hungry in record numbers. It is not about what is right for the country, it is about what makes Truss look good to the right people when she needs to.
