🤣 I love how the thumbnail is Tony Blair. Have relations thawed with him to the point that he is no longer *war mongerer* and now just *former Labour MP*?
Thankfully not. The article is about Kate Hoey.
I understand there are talks to let people cross safely by train or regular ferry ships. It’s a bit weird that nowadays some people need to use their own boat to cross the channel.
Tony Blair has nothing to do with this quote.
It is Kate Hoey who said it. Formally a Labour politician now cosied to right wing agitators like Farage, given a peerage for ‘services to Brexit’.
Say what you like about Blair (and I have), it’s very disingenuous and unfair to put his picture under any quotes from this ghoulish woman.
This guy must know nothing about the situation on this side of the Channel. Human rights and heavy policing of migrants in Calais has been on the headlines of French newspapers for more than a decade now, and he expects we’ll just brush off an accident with that many deaths?
This is just insular UK being completely clueless about 21th century migration realities
The title and the thumbnail don’t match.
Correct.
Surely the UK has some responsibility too? As someone said, the people smugglers love when governments bluster about making it more difficult to cross as they can charge more for less.
Labour MP roflmao
Channel refugees were Iraqi kurds. Remind again which country under which party launched a destabilising and failed military operation in that country? It certainly wasn’t France for sure.
