‘No convincing evidence’ depression caused by low serotonin levels | UK News

  1. Said this yesterday -any decent researcher can prove the poking they want to prove.

You will have another researcher come out and disprove this one – but it won’t make the headlines like this one because once a piece of research makes the news they very rarely report the counter studies

  2. Use me as the doubt button.

I mean there’s a possibility that it’s not due to low Serotonin, yes. But I wouldn’t completely discount that possibility.

Serotonin is kind of like drug addiction, you get to feel happy when it flows in you and eventually it’s absorbed back into your nervous system.

The more things you do that make you happy then the more you feel. There’s a potential that due to the volume of outputs we now have to our disposal that make us happier we are now getting larger amounts.

With every up there has to come an eventual down, and those downs will get harder with the more serotonin we release.

Consider it chasing the natural dragon.

  3. “Low serotonin” has always been a highly simplistic explanation given by the medical community to explain the biochemical basis of depression . For many mental illnesses, the clinical models are derived from the mechanism of action of the drugs that treat them (sort of backwards from what you would expect), and most drugs prescribed for depression modulate serotonin in one way or another.
