Austrians, whats your opinion of Mexico?

  1. Good one. Mexico was the only country to protest the German invasion of Austria in ’38. This is thought to school kids here even though people otherwise likely don’t know a lot about Mexico.

  2. No particular opinion on the state but the people from Mexico who I’ve met in Europe where all interesting and also very nice.

  3. I view it as a country ruined by corruption and economic struggles and plagued by drug Cartelles, but fonldy remembered as a distant child of the habsburg monarchy and the only voice that spoke up as the Third Reich annaxed Austria.

Beautiful culture and nice people, Mexicans are a cool bunch.

  4. I believe you guys were the only country that refused to recognize Germany’s annexation of Austria back in 38 which was very based obv

  5. I am here right now and I really enjoy it! Been to Mexico City, Veracruz, Orizaba, Oaxaca and now Puerto Escondido.
Every place was different in terms of houses, climate and food, but that made the experience very nice!
One more month till I leave.

  6. All in all I think it’s a country that’s been taken advantage of by its elite but overall is a nation full of mostly good people

  7. Random fact:
Mexico and Austria have an inverse crime clearance rate.

In Mexico, 95% of homicides are unpunished, where in Austria just 5% of serious crime cases are unsolved.

  8. Grew up with three Mexican AuPairs. Such lovely girls I miss them…and their mexican cuisine 😉 Thanks to them my comfort food is not Schnitzel but quesadillas 🙂

  9. One of the greatest countries: beautiful landscape, lots of history, fantastic cuisine. Great music, great movie directors, unfortunately very dangerous in some places, crime, drugs, homicide-rate.

  10. Great historical culture, not so great criminal culture right now. Never been there, but feel like I was, thanks to Frida Kahlos’ art. Always felt a bit connected, maybe through interest of pre-European culture, the myths and religion. Choose 2 years spanish at school because of that. Really interested in the cuisine (maybe my favorite after Austrian cuisine). Been trying my best to cook an authentic chili con Carne for the past 14 years, even though I’m aware, that’s more of a texmex thing (regularly traveling to Vienna just to shop at a Mexican store, to get proper ingredients 🥲) but it became something like my own tradition, always improving my chili recipe. I also like other foods and read a lot about it, I’m currently experimenting with street foods, right now savory tamales. Until 3 years ago, my cousin was in a longterm relationship with a Mexican woman and while being happy for him, I was even more happy about having her in our family, so I traded some Austrian recipes for her Mexican ones… fun times I miss.

Overall, I’m very interested in it, would call myself a Mexico-Fanboy😅 , just never been there, probably because of safety concerns (and lack of money for oversea flights)… I thought I would be tougher, but really even San Francisco at night was almost too much for me, so I’m not sure I could handle Mexico City for a vacation.
The Mexicans I know were all very warm and open, which I appreciate. Very similar to Spanish people, where I spent some time at a host family. I like the attitude of sharing and inviting everyone to everything, at any time, it’s like the opposite of our Austrian culture, where we only invite people when we have time to plan ahead or when we feel, we’re “prepared”… we’re just not as spontaneous.

  11. I have a few unchecked opinions (or stereotypes) about mexico.
    1. You are suuuuper into football
    2. Drugs and corruption are a serious problem
    3. Very religious, one of the bastions of the catholic church if you want
    4. Mexico city is gigantic, one of the biggest cities in the world
    5. Amazing food

  12. Was the only country that protested the annexation by Nazi Germany, we didn’t forget that.

Huge and beautiful country, sadly ravaged by drug money and corruption. Best Spanish. 😀 Great food! Amazing history, culture and nature.

    Damn I wanna visit!
