Had been reading a few weeks ago that the Schengen countries are bringing in a system similar to ESTA for any non EU citizens travelling to Europe from next year ([https://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/etias-eu-visa-waiver/index.html](https://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/etias-eu-visa-waiver/index.html)).
As soon as it was announced I was sure the UK would do similar but was wondering how that would work with the common travel area and Ireland, Priti Patel has just announced its coming for travellers without British and Irish passports in a few years ([https://archive.ph/orCl0](https://archive.ph/orCl0)) [https://www.etauk.uk/](https://www.etauk.uk/) but nothing about if we’re taking part too.

  1. I don’t agree with these systems, but if we were to do it should have been with UK similar to schengen one. But since Brexit with eu nationals needing a eta that won’t work.

The border is a hole for uk eta, fly Dublin go Belfast to Britain. Like internal US or Schengen flight so no checks.

  3. Ireland had and still has the idiotic re-entry visa for Irish residents.
    No reason, no logic.

The people already live in Ireland !
