This sort of hatred, harassment and discrimination is the result of the “culture war” bullshit that the Tories have been trying to wage to distract people from their failures on Brexit, Covid and the economy.
The right wingers treat the trans “debate” like a fun little distraction and they ignore the fact that these are real people whose lives they are ruining.
Good.
Sounds like this was handled awfully right from the beginning.
> Staff were informed by a memo that she would be joining and using the female changing rooms, encouraging workers to be respectful to her
Perhaps the intentions here were good but managers ought to know better than to out employees to their colleagues. To then fail to provide any real support when she started to be harassed as a result is shameful. Whether someone is trans, or what transition steps they’ve taken, is frankly nobody else’s business.
They should have done better to find out who made the slur remarks and posted the notes, they need sacking, bigots have no place in a job that requires impartial care.
Sadly this isn’t that shocking to me. The last couple years have seen people get way more openly aggressive to trans people than i’ve experienced prior.
I went from the occasional person being an asshole to having teenagers shouting slurs at me on my way home from a movie, randoms loudly making shitty comments on nights out, etc.
The “culture war” stuff has made these people so much bolder.
This is what the tories want. A culture of bullying that makes us focus on hating trans people and not all the bullshit politicians get up to.
