  5. I have no sympathy for a lot of the people featured in the programme as they found money for a new mortgage but didn’t pay a cent to their current mortgage.

    One person said they were told by carey they now had the new mortgage but were still getting letters from their “old” mortgage provider saying they were not getting any payment and yer wan just pretended not to see the letters and sided with carey instead of co-operating with the provider, not even telling the mortgage provider what they believed which was that they had changed providers.

    How did he afford a €35000 deposit while not being able to afford repayments on his mortgage?

    If you don’t even make an attempt to pay it back, you shouldn’t get to keep the house. You’re just being a selfish cunt and fucking up other people seeking mortgages.

  8. 478 euro a month repayments it says, that seems pretty low? Sounds like he just didn’t want to pay anything, if he actually talked to the bank he prob would have been able to sort it before this

  14. Rent free for the last 11 years and people wonder why we have the highest mortgage interest rates in Europe.

    Now watch the appeal drag this out for another few years.

    As far as I’m concerned, a year is plenty of time to get affairs in order and work with the bank to make some type of repayment. After that, these cases should be fast tracked and settled with a judgement within 6 months.

  16. No pity for him making no repayments in 11 years but how do they prove / unprove it’s not his primary residence? When you buy a house do you have to put it on a register or something? Is it possible to own just one property but not have it considered your primary residence?

  19. This is the face of someone who’s partly at fault for why housing is the way it is in this country. We all love to blame government and banks (and it certainly is them too) but this type of man is another contributor.

    I’ve seen many situations like this and every time they feel like they’re entitled to their house despite only trying to ride the system.

    He wouldn’t pay his mortgage of 500 quid a month for 11 years. What happens to us if we stop paying our <€1000 a month in rents…….

  25. I read this earlier. I see his loan was bought out by vulture funds in the collapse. I wonder was he chancing his arm hoping the wouldn’t bother come after him if he caused enough hassle. Or just hoping it’d somehow get lost in the handover. Absolute chancer anyway, not a victim.

  26. You can’t really blame the foreign banks for pulling out when they have to.put up with this crap. In the UK if you don’t pay your mortgage you kicked out after 6 months, it’s beyond a joke in this country.

  27. You miss rent or mortgage for a single month and you should be given the fucking heave ho. What’s wrong with the people if this country and their entitlement that they think they should be getting everything for free

    He did effectively get free rent for a decade but he’s not going to get another mortgage anytime soon. Renting options may be limited. I’m not sure what his housing options are at this point. My thinking is that it likely involves living in a van down by the river.
