The contactors outright lie to you and lie on the paperwork. Of fucking course they’ll do dirty tricks. They ask you the same question multiple times to try and get you to say an answer in a way they can write something that’s worse for your claim. These people have a major lack of understanding for health conditions and are simply paid well above minimum wage to find ways to reject you.

Ah, this goes both ways. They also “make accommodations” for some disabilities too — pairing the claimant with the assessor who has obviously been on the relevant awareness/training courses. Sounds great, but it’s not representative of real life, so you get failed because you coped during the assessment.
DWP assessments for PIP are a joke. I refused to get out of my mobility scooter and on my report they wrote ‘walked across the room with no issues’. When I refuted it and said my partner was with me, they updated the report. Took me 3 years to get the right award and even then, that is deemed as quick. You repeatedly read of people’s pip being removed and people not being able to cope, some dying of starvation. The people they employ to do the assessments are not doctors, my assessors qualification was that he used to work in a gym.
The way the DWP approach disability benefits is fucking awful. They’d rather punish genuinely disabled people who need extra help so that someone doesn’t get a payment they shouldn’t.
Also the assessors flat out lie.
The whole process is fucking mental. Friend of mine lost his leg and most of his eye sight in Afghanistan. Still he apparently needs reassessment every few years you know incase his leg grows back or he gets an eye transplant.
I had a mate who worked on one of these. The best one was people claiming they couldn’t walk more than 100m’s so needed extra mobility benefits. They had the car park more than 100m’s away, had benches and stuff with camera across it and they checked if the person walked the full 100m’s or stopped to rest. Walk it and boom denied your extra benefits because you can clearly walk 100m’s
I work for a major tech consultancy and we were hired by DWP to do work on the PIP assessment process. Within six weeks almost our whole team had asked to be removed from the job because it was so unethical to support what the DWP were doing.
It’s not really a secret. You apply for PIP, they tell you no. The government designed this system that way on purpose in the hopes people with disabilities will just die off waiting to get through the tribunal process. Cruelty is the point.
I had to take my case all the way to court, like many people here mine was for ASD. They shafted me off of DLA to do a PIP assessment and then marked me 0 for everything. So when I received the submitted court evidence through the post naturally I was quite curious what DWP had submitted.
Turns out the assessor had decided that while I showed several signs of moderate anxiety, because I wasn’t actually having a mental breakdown at the prospect of the interview I was ok. No joke. Also I was “dressed appropriately for the occasion”, which means a really baggy shirt and trackies. So I think I had to have been naked to fail that criteria. I could pick up a cat and I could walk to a sofa so yeah I’m totally fine.
Also in their internal emails they had literally lied about not receiving information and my background.
Court ruled not just in my favour but awarded me both mobility and daily living component, which is more than I expected and far more than I previously received. Fuck DWP, they lie not even to save money, cause this shit costs them more than it saves. They lie for pure ideological bullshit.
Any “medical professional” who has taken on these assessment roles needs to be struck off.

I am hearing impaired was on ESA as i lost my job due to illness. They sent me to PIP assessment. I walked in, the assessor said can you touch your toes? I said yes. Show me she said. I did and she said i could work, that was the entire assessment lol.

I have RRMS and have to re-apply every 3 years. The system is very simply stacked against you. All medical evidence submitted on past claims is void and you have to re- prove that you are still disabled.
I’ve being to numerous assessments where they simply lie and got zero points and gone through the appeal process which isn’t much better but at least they have a little bit more sympathy to get the 15 needed.
I dread the brown envelope arriving around renewal time I get anxiety and hate going through the whole ordeal and consider not bothering with it but the money makes up my wages as I can only work 3 days a week due to my MS.

A family friend had an assessment that started with the assessor smugly announcing that they’d seen her walk all the way from the bus stop and that this would be recorded on the assessment and her claim would be stopped. My friend is blind… In this instance they did at least act embarrassed when this was pointed out but I think it’s terrible to approach this job like you want to trick everyone.
They are truly repugnant.

The sick part is that most of the requirements for ESA and PIP are not supposed to be tested against one off occasions but on the majority of time and repeatable as often as necessary.
So if you have mental health issues and can attend one assessment you might well get refused, even if that is literally all you can do in a year and even if it causes you immense trauma and upset. Had one case where the person could go see their doc because they knew it was vital, but would get so anxious for days before and would cause them issues for a week after, often in tears.
DWP said they could attend to see drs so proved they could function, which is against all their own guidance.
Over turned at tribunal of course but put them through severe anxiety and depression until then

To flag, if anyone needs support with PIP, there’s a charity called Fightback 4 Justice who help anyone who needs it. They were fantastic throughout the process for me, I couldn’t have done it without them.
DWP treat disabled people appallingly and I was terrified to go through the application process. How an unqualified person can assess someone’s complex health needs, and say that the letters from consultants and other health professionals are wrong, is disgusting and unethical.

“But if it reduces costs, where’s the harm?” – A Tory.
I work with people with learning difficulties and they do trick them. One of our guys does volunteer work because he can’t work a normal job but still wants the routine and the pride of work. Naturally, he calls it his work. So when the dwp asked him if he worked, he said yes and they then stopped all his benefits, despite him not having any money from the ‘job’.
Because they’re so underfunded, he didn’t have any social workers to help him or advocate for him. We helped him, but if we hadn’t been there, he wouldn’t have been able to sort it out because he didn’t understand any of it.
Another person, they were always threatening her. She had more mental health issues than a learning disability, but still a low IQ and an extremely poor ability to cope. Her husband died and the dwp kept threatening her to take money and forced her to look for work that she couldn’t cope with.
It boils my blood so much.

The best part of these assessments is the questions about suicide they ask you if you struggle with depression or bipolar. These questions include:
* Have you ever tried to commit suicide?
* How have you tried to commit suicide?
* How many times have you tried to commit suicide?
* Do you think you will commit suicide in the future?
* Have you considered other methods of committing suicide?
These are apparently official questions included in the official assessment and need to be answered.
There’s no two ways about this. Some sick and twisted individuals are involved in this system.
The DWP are liars, I’m currently going through a tribunal with them and they’ve lied directly to multiple tribunal judges, it’s already been proven and is a massive issue for the credibility of those handling my tribunal and now all their other cases
They’ve lied on multiple written and oral statements, they’ve refused to have presenting officers present after being directed to do so by the judge and stating a named person would attend, they’ve refused to provide documents or have provided the wrong ones when directed to by the judge, they’ve filed in incorrect ways, the judge has ordered documents with witness statements attached, and the DWP have refused to file them with a witness statements confirming they’re complete files and true evidence
They’re literally doing everything they can to string out their campaign of harassment longer and are doing everything they can to try to deny what they’ve been up to.
I can’t tell the whole story because there’s a huge suit planned once the tribunal process is over.

My mother has severe arthritis and fibromyalgia. She had to go to a testing centre miles away which of course triggered every single centre of pain in her body.
When she got to the centre she was told the lifts were out and she wasn’t actually allowed to use the stairs as she would be a health and safety risk. She was under so much stress as she was frightened of losing all her benefits that she tried to convince them to let her go the assessment.
She didn’t make it. She found out about this was a dirty trick about a month or so later. That must have been in the 2000’s. Shows how much governments actually care when it’s taken this long to actually do anything about it.
