Leo Varadkar: It will ‘feel like a recession’ for people whose income will not rise as fast as cost of living

  1. > Varadkar’s spats with Sinn Féin deputies, most recently an extremely heated and personal exchange with Pearse Doherty in the Dáil, have become a focal point of Irish politics, a measure of the wider political temperature, and a reflection of the political spectrum.

Well it’s about time people start realizing the toxicity Varadkar brings to politics.

  2. Isn’t “Making work pay” an FG soundbite? Can’t say work is paying much or rent or food or much else these days. But sitting on your hole is working out just great for landlords.

  3. Same was true last time. There was plenty of the south dublin crowd who never felt the 08 recession.

  4. Won’t be a recession for him or his circle that’s for sure

    What an utter cunt

/ drinks in downvotes from FFG shills with a nice cup of tea

  5. No fucking shit dickhead….stating the obvious…do something about it then! You are in the fuckjng government!

  6. I’m not a fan of Leo but I don’t think he’s really said anything wrong here. He’s answering the question on whether there will be a recession or not.

    >While he is confident Ireland will avoid a recession, he admits that a lot of people’s incomes will not rise as fast as the cost of living “and for them it will feel like a recession”.

So he’s saying he doesn’t think there’ll be a recession but if your real income goes down it doesn’t really matter to you if the wider economy is growing or not.

  7. Well i cant see the the whole article as its behind a paywall but this seems like a semantic arguement.

A recession is defined as a fall in GDP for two consecutive quaters. Thats not at all what we’re seeing.

The point is of course moot to most, maybe thats what he’s saying. People are still getting poorer whether its recession or inflation.
