Climate activists actions don’t do anything to convince people, like them saying we need to take action within 12 years or it’s too late…as if there’s a specific date that’s a deadline.
And Micheal Martin was on the news yesterday saying the few sunny days we got is proof climate change is here.
Better get building homes for the climate refugees, and everyone else for that matter.
LOL no. We already do more than enough. Why don’t we look at the elephant in the room of places like China, the US, India or Russia for being some of the worst pollutants in the world. If we all did everything we possibly could for a decade, we wouldn’t put a dent on what they release into the atmosphere in a day. But we also wouldn’t have our shiny things.
I find it worrying that, while we’ve committed to a 51% decrease in emissions by 2030, they’re already weaselling to let agriculture only reduce its emissions by a mere 22-30%.
We’re never going to hit our climate targets if a sector is allowed to get away with this by throwing enough lobbying at it.
Also, one sector being that far behind is going to mean that it’ll be even harder to cut emissions there for our *next* targets.
Politicians keep talking about food security, but that’s a bit misleading when a) we produce much more food than we use, most of it for export and b) the types of food we produce are really inefficient in terms of emissions (and land use, for that matter.)
Wind, sun and water. Billions of KW there for the taking.
Ireland coast = Top 90% of wind resources on planet yet were still driving into bogs and putting up turbines in our beautiful land ’cause its handy for the developer to have a road there already.
Let the cows fart for cryin out loud it’s the only fun they have.
Having FF/FG govts. who love to talk the talk about climate change whilst doing absolutely feck all is infuriating
Oh no, I guess they’ll have to add more tax.
Does that include making the Irish Agriculture Industry less of a polluter?
Dont worry, well have restricted gas supply this winter, likely power outages and diesel shortages as more generators will be used in mainland europe.
Great news for the Green Party.
Nuclear energy…
People need to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. Not accusing anyone on this thread but there’s a few people I know personally who post things online about climate change and what needs to be done but aren’t willing to give up a lot of their luxuries. They’ll drive to the shop that’s just around the corner, order cheap crap online and have it shipped straight to their door, support fast fashion brands and take multiple flights a year for their holidays abroad. We all need to drastically change how we live our lives and give up the consumerism and conveniences.
Ah yeah, lets reduce our food security as we head into a possible global famine. People talk about how we export a million tonnes of beef each year but nobody is talking about how much food we have to import each year. How much of that million tonnes are we going to have to stop exporting when we can no longer import other foodstuffs!
I dunno about the rest of you but I’d much prefer we keep our 7 million cows and get rid of the millions of capitalists we have instead. C02 is the enemy, not our cows.
The planet has been through about 5 ice ages, last i heard. Our climate changes as the planets situation changes, we are part of nature, we must survive and make changes as we go.
Invest in hydro about 20 years ago and keep doing it, kill all the fish and eat them if we must, hydro dams / tidal all the way!
what they’re not saying is that the goal of increasing the herd size for dairy and butter is diametrically opposed to the goal of reducing emissions – it won’t divide in. This means that there’s an amount of bullshit going on above in the dail where they are consipiring to break their own laws on emissions for the ag lobby lol.
But we’re not actually going to do anything beneficial, just tax people more. If we actually wanted to do something green we would instead of just taxing and restricting everything.
Also housing , the cost of living and the stupid high taxes are more important right now that whatll happen in 100 years time

imo
Dump all solar and wind because they are unreliable and apparently solar panals stop working if it gets too hot, [ye thats a thing](https://www.euronews.com/next/2022/07/18/solar-panels-feel-the-heat-too-how-higher-temperatures-are-undermining-solar-power). Not fit for purpose.
