Rail strikes: Government changes law to help plug staffing gaps with agency workers

  1. Let them employ scab labour. But the second it goes wrong and causes an accident because you had poorly trained under qualified staff doing jobs they have no right to be doing then whoever made the choice to employ said scabs needs sticking in prison.

  2. I’ll probably catch some flak for this, but if people are qualified and want to earn then they should be allowed to pick up the work. I agree though that under no circumstances should unqualified/untrained substitutes be brought in without going through the usual training/supervision processes.

  3. If labour want my vote in the next GE (won’t vote otherwise as they will no longer be Labour)

They will have this reversed as quickly if they get in.

The majority of people will not understand the gravity of this change, but anyone who isn’t able to move around employment easily will

It’s just removed the only power low paid and low skilled staff had across many industries

Want to pay your school cleaners and support staff min wage, fine do so, if they strike you just bring in agency

Want to pay those already on shit terms that provide home care min wage even less, see above, maybe keep their pay but stop paying fuel costs, what they gonna do?

Want to pay your grave diggers min wage, fine, I mean they only move spades about, what they gonna do when you bring in agency

I don’t have to worry about this law change, i can move with ease

I’ve been around so many that can’t and they just lost the last bit of power they had

Now the only way to force a dispute is to be in an industry that couldn’t fill the holes if staff striked, most can get away with the 1/2 days people strike because most people can’t afford to lose any more pay.

The lowest paid just got fucked up the ass behind the smokescreen of the “piss taking” RMT

  4. It is happening on the rails now but how long until we see it with any group that goes on strike? It just shows how little the government pays attention to strikes because they know people will happily walk across picket lines if they are desperate enough.

  5. You can’t replace signallers and drivers with agency workers.

Gateline and platform staff, yes, but anyone involved in the actual operational side of the railway cannot be temporarily replaced.

  6. Make the picket lines strong, photograph the scabs and put them on social media! Try and get them named!
