It takes one whole extra hour if I take the bus to Blanchardstown. Nearly 6 times the time it’d take by car. Public transport in Dublin is an expensive joke.

  1. It’s shockingly bad. And then imagine how bad it is in rural Ireland.

We can’t tell people to use public transport when the public transport is hopelessly inadequate in most respects.

Only once they’ve actually put in place acceptable public transport measures can they rely on a carrot and stick.

  2. Hey, ignore this guy. Dublin is ready and will continue to remove cars from the roads.

Besides, Larry, the guy who owns a bunch of apartments for rent in Dublin, loves the idea.

  3. Is that the actual transit time, or it is just counting the total time you’d be spent waiting for a bus because of your selected departure time?

  4. The bus has to stop and go where it’s most needed.

Do you expect an express direct from your door to wherever you want to go?

  5. And that’s before you get into the car being more comfortable, no scumbags, no sweaty arse cracks in your face, no unforseen delays

  6. Busconnect should help with situations like this. There are a lot more bus connections to places outside the city centre like shopping centres and train stations.

  7. Takes me about an hour to drive to work in Dublin, but takes over 2.5 hours on public transport or over 8 hours if it’s my weekend shifts. And they want people to give up their cars?

  8. I guess some routes are great, while some are, well, not?

I’m up in Dub atm with work, based out in Inchicore for a few days.

Missus asked me if I could ckeck decathlon for something for her, googled it, and there’s actually a route from Inchicore to beside IKEA/Decathlon. Bus outside IKEA right back into town, close to my hotel.

    Bloody great service.

  9. You can fly from Dublin to New York quicker than getting a bus from Dublin to Donegal. And it’s 9hrs to go from Donegal to Limerick via bus

  10. LOL this is me.

I can see Dublin airport from the roof garden in my apartment block. It’s 10 mins drive away.

It takes 1hr 15 mins on public transport.

*it takes 1hr 30 mins to WALK there*

    What the fuck like 😂😂😂

  11. It’s a complete joke. Not Dublin, I live in the city but am a 20 min walk from the nearest bus stop. My commute would require two busses and another 20 min walk to get to the office. There’s no connection between the busses so the entire journey takes about 80 mins or so. I can cycle it in under 20 mins ( and I do for obvious reasons)

  12. It took 28 poxy mins to get just from Hawkins Street to Heuston Station via the South Quays on my bus this evening. Bus has no priority, and single occupant vehicles blocking every junction and bridge crossing, meaning it takes 2/3 traffic light sequences before getting across each one. Driver has to contend with that and the completely no thought design cycle lanes wedged in during covid, that spews cyclists in and out of bus lanes. I’d imagine it will take an hour when all the buses that currently use college green are dumped onto the quays next year as well.

The city is an absolute joke. Congestion charge inside the canals and camera enforcement fines for junction blocking and bus lane infringement needed, as well as cycle infrastructure actually designed with cyclists in mind & not a few plastic cones and road markings to spend the budget for the year.

  13. Let me tell you of the tale of the 65B, or the 49A, who’s legendary wanders took you across south west dublin in the 1990s.

Twas ever thus, but at least it was cheaper

  14. Just to rub it in a bit.

My annual Public transport ticket costs €148. And it includes trams, buses, metro, and trains within the city (plus a funicular and ferry service that crosses the river).

Oh, and did I mention that those services are actually efficient and reliable?

Yeah… I always knew Dublin bus (and overall public transport) was a joke… but I never realised just how much of a joke until I left Dublin… Holy fuck!

  15. It takes me 15-20 minutes to drive home.

It took me 2 hours and 3 busses — using 2 of the new bus connects and all.

And, well, 15 minutes driving up the M50 with flowing traffic – even in my RX8, costs about the same as the busfare and – even accounting for the additional overheads of car ownership, having an extra 3 hours of life every day is worth it.

Not to mention not having to deal with the hassle of the bus, and the stress caused by missing it, and the traffic and the fact that the entire city is moving in the same direction so it’ll be full, hot and loud.

  16. If you’re going to a shopping Centre surely there’s one you can get to faster by public transport?

Blanch is in an awkward location, if you’re coming from south side, you have to take the m50 and pay the toll. If you’re not driving then it’s a trip alright, even by bike.

  17. Why is the cycling option hidden?
It’s likely the quickest option, but hidden in this post as its actually practical
