I was born and raised in Cork. I now live in Chicago. Living over here and seeing how fully legal and taxed cannabis is working so well for us just makes me fucking angry that things are still so backwards towards it at home. Booze is so much more destructive to Irish society than cannabis ever was and I’m not even a fan of the stuff. Just pisses me off that I’ve seen violent criminals time and again get bullshit suspended sentences in Cork while they still lock people up for having plants.

It is so strange that weed is celebrated in movies and music and yet people get sent to jail for selling it. The new season of stranger things (the most watched show in the world) has teenage characters smoking weed and its a big joke. Bob Dylan and the Beatles sing about, the judge probably listens to their music but then the judge hands out crazy jail sentences.
Culturally it is seen as a harmless drug and yet there are extreme jail sentences for it.
Legalize now and get some tax in.
