I know that Galway have only lost one since 2001 but that was the last time a Connacht team won a football all-Ireland – becoming a bit of a trend

Well apart from Galway they are probably the least populated counties in Ireland so you can hardly blame them.
Prior to Galway’s win in 1998, the last Connacht team to win was also Galway, in 1966. Sligo and Leitrim have never won the All-Ireland. Roscommon have won it twice, in 1943 and 1944. Mayo have won three times, in 1936, 1950 and 1951. Galway have nine wins, including their famous three in a row of 1964, 1965 and 1966. At nine titles, they are third in the rankings after Kerry at 38 and Dublin at 30.
