The EU needs to sanction or fine Germany too, like how the fuck is the EU sanctioning Russia , while at the same time aiding Russia. Its all just outright hysterical nonsense.
> Driving the news: In an attempt to reassure Congress, the German embassy in Washington privately detailed what retaliatory action against Russia could look like in a “non-paper,” which is typically used in closed discussions to convey candid policy positions.
> A Nov. 19 document marked as “classified” outlines steps Germany would take at the national level, including “strong public messages” condemning Russia’s behavior; “assessing” the suspension of future political meetings; and reviewing “possible” restrictions on future Russian fossil fuel projects — not including Nord Stream 2.
Color me reassured. Germany promises to tell Russia “please don’t limit gas and invade Ukraine” (strong public messages), “we’re so serious we’re not going to talk with you” (no more political meetings), “no more pipelines! Well maybe some more pipelines but we’ll give it a good review!” (will take a look at future projects if Russia decides to use energy as a weapon).
I’m sure there will be Germans in the comments as usual saying it will play no role in Russia invading Ukraine. This is why EE don’t trust Germany/EU
“Dissatisfied Senate Republicans are now pushing for new sanctions as an amendment to the annual must-pass defense bill, with a vote possible as soon as this week. ”
The title really should just say Congressional Republicans. There is a 0% chance of the sanctions passing without Democratic support and Democrats aren’t going to torpedo their own President over this. It’s pretty much kabuki theater so Republicans have a news story to play on Fox News about how Biden is weak on Russia or something like that.
Funnily enough, 95%+ of NS2 was completed under a Republican president before they even put sanctions on it but now that a Democratic president is in charge they are trying to pin the whole thing on him.
Another comment section for /r/europe to argue how it is necessary and good for europe if germany purchases russian gas via east european pipelines, but bad for europe if germany cuts out transit countries that stole gas from us before. I guess we just arent reliant on russia if the gas passes through the ukraine first.
Maybe if your countrys energy security relies on being able to steal german gas you should just look into not being reliant on russian gas yourself? NS2 wasnt build over night and it was only a matter of time before it would be build ever since ukraine stole our gas.
Which Russian energy company is she gonna be CEO?
Unsurprising. Both Germany and Russia need NS2 if the Ukrainian pipe ceases to function.
Still hilarious to me how Germany HAS to stay energy dependent on EE transfer countries or otherwise its basically doing a Molotow-Ribbentrop Part 2 pact… As if any other country in the world would allow unstable nations to possibly disrupt its energy supply…
Are Germans on the Russian side or what? Just like good old time at the beginning of WW2.

#EDIT: Here is a source for some of the sanctions but not all the EU has imposed, since people keep on asking what sanctions?, as if they dont know. Google the others yourself. https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/infographics/eu-sanctions-against-russia-over-ukraine/
Also if you didnt know, Russia has profited during the build process of NS2
