Boris Johnson could face byelection if inquiry finds he misled MPs over Partygate | UK news

  1. On campaigning. If you don’t see that BJ is a bully, you might mistake him for being a good leader. So he will win, if he wants to. It is his friends that eventually betray him, again and again and again. FPTP enables shit to float.

  2. I think he could resign as an MP within days of Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak becoming Prime Minister. Then he refuses to appear before the committee.

  3. I get the feeling that Johnson knows that the economic shit is about to hit the fan big time and is getting out of it so none sticks to him.

  4. I would have to understand the definition of misleading parliament as my recollection is he said:

    There was no party.

There was a party but I wasn’t there.

I was there but only for a few minutes. And anyway all the rules were adhered to.

  5. I think he’s likely to resign as an MP in the autumn anyway. He called the Prime Minister’s (significantly higher) salary too low. I expect to see Johnson leave front line politics and join the ranks of former senior leaders who get paid six figure sums per speaking engagement.

  6. He will quit as an MP pretty quickly after leaving Downing Street.

His priority now is to get on the speaking circuit and pull in the big bucks. Sod being a local MP, that was a means to an end, with a load of restrictions

  7. This is a bit disingenuous, as he would need to be suspended from parliament for 10 days or more – or sentenced to imprisonment, then 10% of voters in the constituency need sign a petition demanding one.

I don’t see any of those things happening.

  8. I mean I’m glad he’s finally out for his lies, but it’s annoying as fuck that Starmer has got away with exactly the same thing.

  9. I’m so done with politicians saying the word “mislead”. A lie is a lie. Call it what it is, be held accountable for your actions.
