  1. I seem to be getting a lot of those fake an post customs texts for some reason.

I think a lot of these scam centers use the same pool of numbers so i suspect once your number pops up they hit you with them a lot in the hopes you eventually pick up before moving on

  2. Your private data is another companies profit.

I’ve had x2 texts this year that is all.

Only one large organisation has my number in Ireland, so it was either a hack on said organisation or they sold my data.

  3. I accidentally answered a call yesterday because the number looked familiar. I’ve had nothing but scam calls since. 2 already this morning and it’s only 10.30

  4. I had the same issue. Take note of the numbers and contact your provider. I did it through webchat and they blocked them. Problem solved. Haven’t had calls since. Good luck

  5. Got a scam call from ‘vodafone’ a few weeks ago. I knew it was a scam straight away as the number was mad looking. He was looking to see if I would be interested in upgrading my package.

So anyways, they knew my first name. Interesting I thought. So I played along. The guy asks me to “confirm” my full name and date of birth. I said not giving that out, sure if you are who you say you are it’ll be on your screen. He changed tactics and said OK I can confirm it’s you if you tell me last time you topped up. Lol. I just hung up.

Googled the number and it was a known scam.

  6. I haven’t gotten any lately, but at one point I was getting 3-4 scam calls every day. They seem to go in waves. Every few years, I’ll get mad amount of scam calls for a few weeks, then nothing.

Mind you, I’ve never answered one. I block any number now that I don’t recognise and hasn’t got an EU dial code. Some of them do look like Dublin numbers though, so I’m wary of answering numbers starting with 01 too… But usually if it’s work/a delivery company etc they leave a message so you can tell who to call back.

I don’t think there’s much point in changing numbers because it’s a hassle to change the number linked to your emails, bank etc. Plus almost everyone I know seems to get scam calls, and numbers are reused, so I think they’ll get you eventually either way

  7. Some tips to prevent these:

Basically avoid providing your phone number anywhere you can. Most of these calls you receive are due to companies that have had a data leak. Fraudsters get hold of your number and other personal information.

Each time you provide a phone number for 2FA or a backup login you increase the chances of these fraudsters getting hold of your number. Use an 0Auth app for 2FA instead of receiving an SMS to your phone, I use an app called Duo. When you lose a phone, it’s nightmare signing in to things that require phone number 2FA.

Use an email masking service to hide your real email when signing up for stuff online.

You’ll notice these types of scan calls and emails drop substantially 👀
