I’m on vacation in Klenovica and heard these sounds at night, and i’m what kind of insect/animal is making them? I also saw a couple of bats flying around a lamp post hunting insects, and i’m wondering what kind of bats they are or could be. Answers in english are appreciated but any language works!

  1. Sounds like dolphin ejaculating in the distance. Have you tried our great selection of locally made soft drinks?

  2. Not related to this but I’m (sort of) local there. If you haven’t, take a walk to lighthouse island and continue further towards Smokvica. Path is nice and there’s a few beautifully decorated places for swimming and on the end there’s promenade in Smokvica with caffee bar and a beach in eyesight. Hope you like Klenovica 😊

  3. You brought a smile on my face when I saw you are currently in Klenovica because my family has a vacation house in Smokvica-Krmpotska which is a village next to Klenovica.

I can’t wait to come there next week.

P.S. I suggest to check out if you didn’t already.

  4. I really don’t know for the sound you recorded. I am quite confident it is not cicadas. My first thought was a bat from Tadarida genus (eng. name Free-tailed bats). They vocalise in humans’ hearing range. However, the sound you recorded sounds too long (individual sound) and to slow (between individual sounds). Tadarids have quick short bursts.
Also, on your question about which bat – I don’t have idea 🙂 We have 30+ bat species so if you know anything about european bats you probably know better than I.
So, what is the sound? I would explore cricket option. Someone wrote it is Mormon cricket, try with that.

  5. Haha kinda cute that you question such a banal sound, like an insect that we hear every damn night.

It’s a cricket, simple as that.
