I very much doubt that 57% of Romanians have a positive attitude towards Orban.
First of all, Orban is viewed as an irredentist in Romania. We have seen a couple of provocation coming from Budapest in the last couple of months, and these things are seen very negatively by Romanian people.
Second, his appeasement with Putin is also very negative for us. Romanians hate imperialist Russia, therefore hate Putin. Putin approval in Romania is 2-5%. And Orban is seen as a putinist.
It is true that we have a political formation, AUR, which is anti-hungarian, that wants to copy Orban’s style. And by Orban style I mean: iliberalism, anti EU. So they have in common a lot(just like they do with Putin ideology of state control), they offer him as an example, but hate him because he is hungarian and irredentist.
So how can Orban have 57%?
This is targeting (probably) ethnic magyars which are (in my experience) are very pro-Orban because they are the target of many election campaigns + normal indoctrinations and presentation of passed Hungarian glory etc, more so than Magyars from Hungary.
I highly doubt that Romanians like Orban. Maybe some AUR voting idiots like the idea of illiberalism, but 57% of Romanians is absurd. And why would they like this Trianon-obsessed idiot when his lap dogs (UDMR) are one of Romania’s most hated political parties? Not to mention Orban’s openness to Russia.

If you ask people on the street in Romania, in the Hungarian language even, a lot of people might think you’re talking about the Romanian one.
The Hungarian one is a Trianon cry baby. He made his money gambling on currency and he realizes he made a bad gamble with Russia and he is doubling down in hopes of pulling a rabbit out off this war. Simple.
