More than 1,300 undocumented have immigration status regularised

  1. So these 1,300 people up to now failed to adhere to proper immigration laws and have been here illegally? I see no benefit of rewarding that through an amnesty

  2. We’re putting Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion in tents, putting our homeless up in hotels (meaning we have no hotel capacity… even look at AirBnB right now).

Yet we’re regularising illegal immigrants instead of deporting them? Put the illegal immigrants in tents instead.

  3. I don’t have a problem with it… just wish my daughter who was born here 2 1/2 years ago and knows no other place as home would be able to get her citizenship… currently she has to wait another 2 1/2 years unless they pass a law to reduce the wait down to 3 years.

  4. That’s quite a low amount, no? I though the estimated undocumented/illegal immigrant population was well above that.

  5. > undocumented

Why not just call them illegal immigrants instead of sugar coating it? It’s not a slur to say that they were here illegally

  6. The illegal immigrants should have been deported. Why are we determined to keep allowing criminals in. These people are by their nature criminals.

Be interesting to see how many now sign on to social welfare for the rest of their lives, i het its closer to 1300 than 0

  7. The amount of fucking melts calling for people who’ve been living and working in Ireland for many years to go back home is depressing. They’re not grifters, scammers and layabouts. They’re hard-working, decent people, like the majority of immigrants.

  8. Delighted, it’s been a long road for many of them, and we’re all the richer for having them here.

    Fáilte is fiche!

  9. Expat here! I came here by sponsorship. Which means a company saw my value and sponsored me. I am paying a lot of taxes. I am doing everything by law. So according to this I am an idiot. Why am I bothering if Irish government would handout residency permits.

If they are coming from war/conflict zones this is a very good incident. Otherwise this is pretty fucked up.

  10. Most people have used 2 passports to enter this country and using Northern Ireland as an escape while they stay even longer than they should and return to ireland with their native passports one month after they leave and enter again. I know one that’s achieved it and it’s the easiest country to get into.

  11. Immigration is playing nothing but a game in high school we all played. Nobody, and I mean nobody knows that not long ago as a matter of fact 2009 2010 2011 and 2012 anyone could have stayed as long as they want and leave through northern Ireland. And they come back in again through airports like Dublin or cork, so easy.

  12. In the meantime if you’ve been working legally even with a critical skills work permit and you fail for some reason to be at correct date to update your immigrant card you can be deported.
