Hello, I am considering the purchase of a used VW vehicle from Germany. In the advert, the dealer uses the term ‘Scheckheftgepflegt Digital’ concerning the service record of the vehicle. I think this means there is no service booklet/paper record of the vehicle’s service history, but that maintenance details are instead stored on the vehicle’s information console instead. Here’s a video in German showing how it works for BMW cars, please scroll to 1min25: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1RLvZkdlp8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1RLvZkdlp8)

My question for more knowledgeable people here regards the veracity of this service history: Is it now standard to store service history this way in Germany (i.e. no paper records) and it’s subject to a system of checks and balances so I can have confidence in the service record? Or is this something wide open to manipulation and I should be dubious?

I’ll be very grateful for any light anyone can shed on this. I think I’m getting old as I wasn’t aware of this new way of doing things, but then again I never buy new cars so maybe that’s why I’m lagging behind 😉
