Hi.

I refer to this: https://winahousewithkerrygaa.ie

Originally, it was supposed to happen on 9-4-2022, then the draw was pushed back to today.

They vaguely just say July now on that webpage.

What gives?

  1. The fact you can split the cost of a load of tickets with humm seems predatory and sad, imagine paying for a losing bet 11 months later

  2. Their terms and conditions that you agreed to are also now out of date. Technically if the draw is to occur in July 2022 no one who bought a ticket is a valid entrant to the raffle. See subsection 7 & 8:

“Upon purchasing a lottery ticket, the lottery ticket purchaser will be automatically registered as a member of ‘Kerry GAA Supporters Fundraising, which is a Sub-Committee of the Promoter for the period of 21st April 2021 to 30th April 2022. No additional fees will arise in respect of the lottery ticket purchaser’s membership of Kerry GAA Supporters Fundraising Club.

The lottery is confined to members of the Kerry GAA Supporters Fundraising Club and who are subject to the rules of Kerry GAA Supporters Fundraising Club.”

As the date has changed you are no longer a member of this club. Could be a clerical oversight, a few other conditions in the T&Cs also look vague and I doubt are enforceable.

  3. I’d say this is down to not enough tickets sold. These things were a novelty at the start but now nearly every town in the country has one on the go so demand will be much lower

  4. You’d have to assume that they haven’t sold enough tickets. There are too many of these win a house draws. I bought a few tickets a couple of years back but gave up when I saw the organisers increasing the max number tickets that can be sold.

I remember giving this Killarney house some consideration. It’s a nice modern house in a great location (5 mins walk from centre). It would have made a great holiday home. However I eventually gave it a pass when I saw how many tickets could be sold. They are in a position to make €2million for a €300k house. The more they can make the less likely people are to buy a ticket.
