Plans to extend DART to Maynooth and M3 Parkway

  1. I moved to Balbriggan in 2003 (though I no longer live there.) At the time we moved the plan was that they’d start work on extending the DART within 6 months, and that it’d be ready to go 2-3 years later, depending on when they could get the extra trains needed.

Take a wild guess how that went.

  2. This government are great at announcing public transport projects, not so good when it comes to delivering.

  3. This is so fucking underwhelming this should have been completed in 2010 and we should be building extensions elsewhere.

  4. Seems like decent progress! Like that we’re now getting a few of these projects started, even if it’s taking absolutely ages to get anything delivered.

  5. Why does it take so long to get anything planned and built in Ireland? Every single time one of these projects is announced the completion date is at least a decade out and I don’t get it. Other countries can deliver infrastructure on time at least semi-reliably, how is it that we can’t do it in Ireland?

  6. As someone who uses this train daily, what’s the reason for the change from commuter rail to dart seems nonsensical to me, commuter rail already does a pretty good job bar morning into docklands is pretty cramped but I dont see how this will change running a dart instead. Will dart increase capacity/frequency versus commuter rail enough to justify? Dart trains are also very old I know they mention a Dart+ fleet but I cant find much detail in regards to capacity.
