UK man killed himself after police named him pedophile instead of sausage thief.

  1. The headline should also include that after the police messed up, his girlfriend went around spreading the false information. She as good as murdered him, she should spend the rest of her life in prison.

EDIT: people don’t understand that I also believe the staff behind the error should spend their lives in prison too. In my opinion, you can’t rob someone of their life and expect to get away with it.

  2. Great, so now the police can kill people by clerical error. Along with being rapists and probably nonces that’s quite a repertoire they’re developing.

  3. I expect a rational set of comments here, although people are already looking for life sentences to be handed out lol.

He had an incorrect charge sheet in his pocket. Any sane person literally heads back to the station and gets it corrected.

  4. I’d like to know how the initial error happened. Is the code for shoplifting close to the one for sexually assaulting a child? Or did two different people get mixed up, and if so does that mean a pedophile is happily skipping away with “stole sausage rolls” on his paperwork? Obviously this was a serious mistake in the sense that someone died, but how serious was in terms of 1) culpability, 2) other serious consequences, and 3) how likely it is to happen again if the same procedures are still being followed?

  5. Once my dad had policemen knocking on our door wanting to question him about an incident involving a teenage girl (you get the idea)

After a couple trips with them to the station it turns out they were after somebody else who shares his name and lives in the next town over, my dad was as innocent as he was claiming.

It’s quite concerning how these errors aren’t as rare as you’d think, and luckily for my dad his name was cleared before he was labelled a pedo by anyone other than the police

  6. Please make sure the compensation comes out of the Police pension fund otherwise they’ve got no incentive to improve if we, the general public, keep paying instead.

  7. > Temple’s girlfriend proceeded to spread the false information.

Police fucked up, his girlfriend ensured everyone knew about it, she is far more to blame.

Also this was 5 years ago, why post now other than to fan this subs hatred of police?

  8. Along with this being a horrific example of the dire state of our education system, mental health services, and the police, you also need to question the people who broke into his house with a golf club, beat the shit out of him, then went around bragging about it. I’m sure we all equally despise pedos, but there’s always a taste of “methinks the lady doth protest too much” with these types and it sounds like a hard drive check is due for those guys…

  9. It’s shit this guy died but, come on, if someone handed you an official piece of paper saying they were a paedo and you question it and they say ‘oh no, that’s a police error’, how many of you would truly believe them?

Paedos aren’t the most trustworthy lot, are they? The police force are at fault, the girlfriend acted exactly how 99% of people would.

  10. >Unaware of the mistake, the man gave the documents to his then-girlfriend.

So this happened immediately after he was released? Did she not think it was strange that he was casually handing her a document claiming he was a paedophile?

I’m struggling to understand why it wouldn’t have been simple to go down to the police station and get it sorted out. The officers who interviewed him would know that they’d been questioning him about a theft instead.

  11. You can always rely on *literally any article that involves the police fucking up* to draw out the resident plod on this subreddit.

  12. Awful story. Although I did learn that stealing a sausage roll results in a custodial sentence which is something of a surprise

  13. It staggers me just how many people fail to proof read their work. Maybe it’s because of my OCD but I can’t even send an email at work or write a comment on Reddit without proofreading it like twice…

  14. Sausage thief how the fuck can you go from sausage thief to peado it’s not like the code numbers are next to each other.

I think i might wanna read the article but i’m scared i’d be more confused.(EDIT) Yep just more confused and some fucking girlfriend she must have been but who knows she might actually feel remorse but i fucking doubt it.

Just how the fuck can you make that “error” i expect this stupidity in america not here.

I just hope his family sue every fucker including his girlfriend and have her name spread through the media after all i’m sure a smart lawyer could get the bitch for manslaughter or something else.

  15. “Police errors in the United States have led to high-profile tragedies in recent months.”

WTF does that even have to do with anything???!!

  16. Seems like the ex-girlfriend caused this. Giving a little benefit of doubt, it’s something you would do if someone turned out to be a pedo, but one has to fix their own mistake..
