I’d like to know how the initial error happened. Is the code for shoplifting close to the one for sexually assaulting a child? Or did two different people get mixed up, and if so does that mean a pedophile is happily skipping away with “stole sausage rolls” on his paperwork? Obviously this was a serious mistake in the sense that someone died, but how serious was in terms of 1) culpability, 2) other serious consequences, and 3) how likely it is to happen again if the same procedures are still being followed?
Once my dad had policemen knocking on our door wanting to question him about an incident involving a teenage girl (you get the idea)
After a couple trips with them to the station it turns out they were after somebody else who shares his name and lives in the next town over, my dad was as innocent as he was claiming.
It’s quite concerning how these errors aren’t as rare as you’d think, and luckily for my dad his name was cleared before he was labelled a pedo by anyone other than the police
Please make sure the compensation comes out of the Police pension fund otherwise they’ve got no incentive to improve if we, the general public, keep paying instead.
