  1. My Jewish friend – who is a smoker – is afraid when I hold a lighter… German and gas… And if the ashtray is out of his reach, he asks for “the family urn”. It’s hilarious. So, basically chill people.

  2. Should be noted that said charge is what the prosecution is seeking, but I’d wager it’s quite unlikely they’ll get that. At most I could see a potential suspended sentence and a lesser fine.

  3. Potential two years in prison for an admittedly offensive joke that was directed at no individual.

Meanwhile king Juan Carlos is implicated in embezzling millions of euro and has been kicking it with the Saudi’s for the past year.

    Spain is a joke.

  4. Who did this comedian piss off in the prosecutor’s office? And does Spain not have laws protecting jokes?

  5. And yet so many redditors are quick to say “slippery slope fallacy” whenever people oppose policing of language/hate speech laws.

  6. What a joke of a court, and the fact that that judge/jury cannot see the precedent they are setting is borderline criminal. What’s the over-under on them being prosecuted for this appalling decision?

  7. I was living non-agressively off grid in my land in Spain, and now since 2 months I’m locked in a Hospital because they say I have a mental disorder (OCD).

I had a job as a freelancer/programmer, not depending on anyone for income.

While away, I had many things robbed, and still not sure how many months this will last.

For the first month I was medicated by force, now not anymore but still living in uncomfortable conditions and looking for legal solutions.

  8. As an eastern European who’s been living in America since he was 5 y/o

Anyone care to give me some insight as to why Western Europe hates free speech with a nazi rage?

  9. I mean, Spain is a joke, but I think it will get overturned by the upper court, like in some similar cases (the woman that joked over the death of Carrero Blanco)

Edit: Reminds me when I got brutally downvoted here in this subreddit for daring to write that we have a problem with freedom of speech in Europe.

  10. Ahh back in the great old days of the communist block for a simple joke against the ruling party you could have a free visit to the prison for 10 whole years (/s tho true). History is trying to repeat itself?

Edit: my comment was based on communist law but apparently it is connected to authoritarian law so fascism falls in that category as well

  11. How come South Park never got any accusations then? I mean, I guess they never targeted people with mental issues in a negative light (as far as I know at least) but it did some more controversial things.

  12. Is this maybe a class issue? When I worked in construction, I heard jokes like this all the time, while they would not fly in my middle class group of friends.

To clarify, my colleagues in construction weren’t intolerant, just very crude and made fun of everything and everyone.

  13. So the prosecution wants a China like punishment for a joke, a bigger punishment than some rapists get.

  14. Why use Twitter out of all places? It’s a terrible place and most of the cringe and insanity you can find here.
