In the early 80’s my brother visited Poland [Gdansk] for work. He said it was one of the most depressing places he had been. The whole city was like the worst area of a run down housing estate.
I’ve only come to know Poland in the last decade+ when I got together with a Polish Lady [who was a child/teen/young adult/ young married, during the communist era]
I’ve visited many areas of Poland and seen a vibrant colourful, marvellous country with some great infrastructure and amenities helped funded by EU Money.
We travel to her home city (Zielona Gora) and sometimes she will point out places of interest from Communist times
‘That was where our family used to live and’ (turns round and points at a building 50 m in the opposite direction) ‘over there was where we would go for a bath’.
