Wenn ich einkaufen (nakupovat) gehe, heißt das nicht, dass ich etwas kaufen werde. Nur, dass ich im Shop sein werde.

And the other tells you that you are going shopping but in a generic way… So you don’t know what you will get and might not actually buy anything.

I understand it in a way:
Jdu nakoupit – I will shop
Jdu nakupovat – I will be shopping
You can also say: “Jdu na nákup” or “jdu na nákupy”, where “Jdu na nákup” = “Jdu nakoupit” and “jdu na nákupy” = “jdu nakupovat”

In my mind “nakoupit” refers to going shopping to the grocery store, it’s certain that the person will buy something. They will spend a certain time shopping and that’s it. While “nakupovat” would refer to going to shop for example for clothes, walking around the mall, checking out different things, without necessarily knowing what/if anything you will buy. That’s how I and people around me use this word.
