How come an event in Dublin costs more in € than in £?

  1. For reference £60 GBP is €70 and some change.

This is for an event organised on cluedupp.com, a British company that creates outdoor events. But I find the markup for using local currency ridiculous…

  2. I mean… if I operate my business in GBP, I might have a slightly higher price in Euro than GBP because of FX risk, but an extra 15% premium would be taking the piss, frankly.

  3. Without knowing anything about the event or how it operates, it could be any number of factors including: staffing; insurance; advertising; event infrastructure; licences; tax; legal fees; competition or lack there of; sponsorship or literally anything else.

  4. If their primary currency is GBP, they probably set the euro price at a premium so it can absorb currency fluctuations (they won’t want to have to update the prices on a regular basis), and they’ll generally round up too. This is a pretty steep premium here.

If you can pay in GBP (e.g. with Revolut), do that.
