Drunk mum who suffocated baby spared prison due to mental health

  1. Considering it’s not her first “accidental” booze induced death she should have been locked up but women always get lesser/no sentences than men even for fucking killings

  2. Disgusting. How has she been cleared of negligent homicide? This seems like a textbook case. If it were the Dad in this position he’d locked up without a second thought and rightly so. A child has lost it’s life for fuck sake.

  3. Living in Switzerland, not sure she’d have gotten off so lightly if she’d been in UK ??

as an aside – Switzerland used to relocate kids from ‘problem’ families to work on farms … [https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-29765623](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-29765623) – swiss version of taking kids into care?

  4. I can’t believe this woman had a fourth baby *after* two died as a result of her alcoholism and her eldest was taken into care! What on earth was her husband thinking impregnating her again? And the poor eldest daughter who tried to roll her comatose mum off of the suffocating baby, and said daughter is now back in this woman’s care – it’s beyond belief.

  5. Read the actual article and it makes more sense.

She hadn’t been let off the hook. Rather she has been sent for mental treatment.

Pretty standard even for criminals with mental disorders. Being borderline is no joke.

  6. Fucking lock her up and throw away the key. She’s been done for drink driving AND killing two of her children in the last 5 years. What will it fucking take?! Absolutely ridiculous.

  7. I’m sorry but if your mental health is so bad that you can escape jail and get away with murder you arnt safe to be in normal society. she should be in an institution of some kind

  8. Alcohol causes so much damage, yet we’re supposed to punish people for smoking a bit of weed, the worst effect being the shops running out of snacks.

  9. How a persons mental well being is improved in those units is beyond me. The worst place unless you grow to like it.

  10. I no better than scientific experts/legal professionals and have strong reactive opinions on this issue.

  11. See this is getting stupid and it’s hard for me because my Mom had too attempts on my life growing up due to proper Mental Health and I’m still there for her!

But then I feel people are so quick to raise that flag, or maybe it’s just asking more questions…..population, funding, not being able to get the proper help etc!!

Despite my History I can have some zero tolerance and I’ll always love my Mom but sometimes I feel should apply to have a child with background checks included! Don’t wanna upset anyone I’m not a Father but then I see I wouldn’t be a good one either!

  12. So this judgement was in Switzerland not the UK? Hard to really say how it would go here. But borderline personality disorder would be very unlikely to give any leniency here

  13. I don’t know why I wasn’t surprised when I saw she was from St. Helens.

Our entire town is a basketcase for mental health issues.

  14. She should have been locked up for what she did, but having been spared a custodial sentence is especially disturbing in her case: now she can have another baby and possibly smother that one as well.

  15. >The court ordered that Ross continued psychiatric and addiction treatment for “as long as necessary” to prevent “reoccurrence”.

    >According to Swiss reports, prosecutor Jean-Marie Ruede expressed “satisfaction” over the verdict. He said: “She is certainly acquitted in criminal matters, but she will have to live with two deaths on her conscience.”

So she’s (seemingly) been sectioned – which in many cases can be worse than prison

Doesn’t sound like getting away with anything, Reddit.

  16. Christ that article is some grim reading. Why wasn’t she in prison for drinking 4x the legal limit in the first place.
