Gobbles up my 4% pay rise. Another year of declining income.
And I read port workers planning on strikes? Amazing timing
When is somebody in this useless Government going to get a grip? They could start with regulating petrol
Don’t forget that the inflation measurement used doesn’t include house prices or rent prices, which have both gone up astronomically so the reality is even worse than this figure suggests
Almost like moving towards electrified transport would help solve inflation worries as well as emissions.
It’s called energy security for a reason!
I forgot the name but there’s another figure for the Real adjusted figure of inflation. Anyone know what it is?
Have I got this right?
– inflation puts up fuel prices.
– inflation goes up because fuel prices rise.
Makes you wonder who in the Government is allowing these insane fuel prices (and record profits for oil companies).
I can see that fuel duty and VAT will bring in more revenue for the Treasury, but at what cost to the economy.
It just doesn’t make sense.
It’s not inflation. It’s price gouging.
Yet we have been told not to take a pay rise…
But for gods sake don’t ask for a pay rise, because inflation will then be your fault.
Tory logic is the best logic, they say inflation makes everyone poorer, which it does, but it disproportionally affects those on lower incomes.
I don’t get it, it’s not 10% more expensive than it was. Is it a constant 10% every day or something?
I think these headlines should focus on profit made instead so people can see clearly the price gouging going on too.
Thanks Boris (and everyone who voted Brexit), you really dumped us in the shitter this time.
Inevitable consequences of shutdown the economy for months on end. Have to seriously consider if it was worth it because this was ALWAYS going to be the result.
I swear I heard on the news a couple days ago the cost of fuel at the pump is expected to fall a bit now? Or was that bollocks? Pumps around me have dropped a few pennies per litre I think. Still stupid expensive though.
Welp, guess it’s time to go vegan.
They don’t include energy and housing because it’s too volatile…these lot, man. Inflation is caused by the central bank printing money and they know it, the ones closest to the Infinite Money Tap get to use the newly printed money to buy assets (things that are hard to print/make more of like real estate. It’s called the Cantillion Effect, Google it – v interesting) – this further exacerbates inflation and raises prices of assets leading to a wealth illusion.
We think our assets grow in price and so we are wealthier, however you sell the asset and realise that the purchasing power of the money you now have is much much less than it should be.
They could stop this by not printing money but they won’t do that.
Redditch’s Conservative MP and safeguarding minister Rachel Maclean has sparked fury with her controversial comments on how Britons can avoid the cost of living crisis. Ms Maclean said anybody struggling should take on more hours or move to a better-paid job in an interview.

Conservative Lee Anderson was speaking at the Commons as a debate was taking place about the Queen’s Speech, when he claimed people had the ability to “cook meals from scratch” for “30p a day” instead.

Four primary schools in Wales will be piloting a scheme educating children on “alternative proteins” from sources such as insects.
Crickets, grasshoppers, silkworms, locusts and mealworms will all be discussed with children in Pembrokeshire, with the view of potentially offering them as an alternative protein.
Financial Crisis: Quantative Easing used to keep financial markets going. Basically printing money. Government debts increase because of bailouts. Crisis ends but they keep printing. Banks have more money than they know what to do with so lend it cheaply as mortgages. House prices soar because of low interest rates Covid: More money printed to buy government debt to pay for all the costs.
2022: Weak currency and massive inflation: A lesson in financial stupidity by the Conservatives and Bank of England. The £ in your pocket is worth 50 p now…. And now you know who to blame and its not just Russia….
Just for comparison. Petrol and diesel prices are going down quite a lot here in Denmark. Two weeks ago it was 19, now it is 15.50.
So I really hope for UK, it will also be temporary too, and prices will come down very soon!
I know a lot of people drive so this affects a lot of people, but I don’t drive and things are still expensive as shit. I feel like every issue that gets media attention is one that doesn’t affect me, but I am still affected. I don’t drive, I don’t have kids, I don’t provide care for anyone… but I pay rent, bills, buy food and travel and that has all gotten too fucking expensive.
I’m still stunned that fruit apparently has only gone up 9%. All the stuff I see is 20% more expensive
Clearly the solution is to dislike people intelligent and free minded enough to unionize and demand a pay rise under threat of withdrawing their labour /s
