Happy to let a handful of car parks ruin the city, but take a court order against a cafe doing no harm and bringing a bit of colour to a drab area. Well played DCC, truly looking out for what matters yet again.
DCC: “We had fun once………it was awful.”
You don’t understand kids seeing bright colours incites them to violence, it’s medically proven.
What did it say?
What did it say?
Can anyone actually explain this?
DCC going to court to remove this seems a bit mad, given the cost etc.?
What did it say before?
The pandemic is over so their ambition was achieved.
If the message was “You’ve got this” as another user has suggested, what could possibly be wrong with that?
Seriously what’s there fucking problem?
That’s pretty sad
What powers do they have regarding this? Can they shut you down for painting your business in a way they don’t like? I’d have my walls blazened with cocks ands vaginas.
To the tune of baby shark this is what dublin city council sings when they go to work:
“Let’s be cunts da da da-da da da da!”
“Let’s be cunts da da da-da da da da!”
“Let’s be cunts!”
I’ve emailed DCC to give out stink about this. If you give a shit I’d recommend doing the same; customerservices@dublincity.ie
If I don’t hear back from them within a week they’ll be getting a phone call; 01 222 2222
I know this work likely won’t ever be back – but DCC shouldn’t just be left off with this pathetic behaviour. As if there’s nothing better they could be focusing their attention on these days than having public art removed.
edit: my comment was hasty, and I frankly wasn’t expecting it to gain so much attention – good points made below about contacting councillors rather than the customer service if looking to raise an issue over it.
Understandable why they did it. It almost made Dublin look like a vibrant community and somewhere you’d want to live, we can’t be having that now, can we?
DCC just do not like Dublin City
But chains can throw up shitty plastic signage? How does this make sense.
Can they now just put it on the glass now? “Temporary” markers? Not permanent.
Unpopular opinion but letting shopfronts put up murals likes this is great until a stream of abominations are put up followed by people wondering why the city looks like shit. In the example the artwork is fine but the principle sticks.
DCC are infuriating. They seem to genuinely hate Dublin.
When are they ever not at it?
Call me cynical but it’s an easier case to “win” for the council to hand out enforcement notices to small businesses that cannot afford to fight back than it is to force the hand of developers who can.
The whole DCC /Planners know what looks best is horseshit. What you get is the current groupthink in academic circles who imagine themselves as the arbiters of taste. For many of these types Georgian Dublin represents a high point of civilization after which the savages took charge. The greatest changes and progress in our society came from those in protest, in minority, in exclusion, in forced silence. It’s time ordinary people organized against clowns.
DCC: I know that car is completely blocking the footpath, but as long as part of it is on private land we can’t do anything about it. We certainly can’t stop people from doing whatever they want with their own property!
Also DCC: What’s that? An unauthorised mural? (Picks up red telephone)
Hang me if you will: I honestly prefer the blank storefront window.
I’m so glad this for the traction it did..I posted this to my Instagram,Twitter,TikTok and LinkedIn and it didn’t get as much of a response. You people are awesome, especially those who contacted DCC over it.
For note: this is not my company, but it’s my city.
DCC when the streets are filthy, there’s no decent housing to be found anywhere, you wait 45 mins for a bus with no explanation, cars and stupid hotels overtake the city and suffocate its life: I sleep
DCC when somebody paints a nice, cheerful mural on their own property: hold my drink
Dublin is dead
If as others have said this is a protected building then I’m on DCC’s side that it shouldn’t be allowed without planning permission.
Of course DCC as always have their priorities wrong and should instead be focusing on enforcing upkeep of all the crumbling unmaintained protected buildings in the city but in principal I see nothing wrong with this
The DCC are miserable fucking philistines.
Oh no peeps can’t just break planning law at will … boo hoo…
This is petty from DCC but the company in question is a Branding/Marketing company so I suspect this mural falls under advertisement rules and it was already prohibited or DCC wanted extra cash the company wasn’t prepared to pay.
After looks better. Sometimes Subset looks better but not here
I dunno about anyone else but I’m kinda over these “positive” slogans in the same font plastered all over the place. It started with Maser (probably) years ago. Time for something different.
Man I hate the council.
Im one of the few people who fucking hates murals and wall art. I think the right pic above is way nicer than the left. However, to forcefully remove it from someone’s property is a bit mad to me. It’s really not causing any harm to anyone and it’s their business like. Let them do what they want. I love me Ukrainians, LGBTQ+ people and I love my fellow country folks. But their flags are plastered up all over the city whenever the occasion suits by DCC without a say (or complaint) from the public. Why’s that allowed but someone painting their own business isn’t?
Ah lovely, so glad that’s been removed, now I can better appreciate the abandoned buildings overgrown with weeds beside Trinity, the lack of public toilets, the constant stench of piss and the piles of rubbish about instead, DCC doing a great job as always.
After reading this thread the problem is with the planning laws/regulations even the mindset and mood that created them. In trying to preserve and control the history and look of the country (but really Dublin) they are in fact killing it and any new character that might develop. Also DCC shouldn’t be let of the hook if people complained about it (not sure who would) DCC should talk to them about it and if no one complained then double and triple fuck DCC. They let so much poor construction happen and this they enforce.
Honestly getting very angry about the planning in this country, in trying to control everything they end up getting controlled by it instead. Smarter politicians would have foreseen this but politicians have involved in ‘planning permission’ in this country for ever and none of them want to give the power, it might stop them getting elected.
Looks better now…no, wait, that doesn’t sound right.
Honestly I’ve run of out words to describe the extent of my negative feelings towards DCC.
Well the childish scrawl wasn’t very attractive or motivating either so it’s good that it’s gone, however DCC need to sort out the bike parking in town it’s a disgrace, Joe.
