  1. Probably a good time to visit country. Last time I was there it was 5.80TL/ $1. I can imagine things got quite a bit cheaper (for tourists) nowadays

  2. Two weeks ago, one euro was 11.44 turkish lira. Now, it is 15.13 turkish lira. That’s an inflation rate of 37% in two weeks. If this rate holds, it’ll be 89% inflation rate in a month. Hyperinflation is classified at 50% inflation a month.

If this rate holds, the turkish lira is officially hyperinflating about four days from now.

  3. >The latest crash in the currency came after Mr. Erdogan gave a speech last week outlining his determination to keep rates low as a way of promoting economic growth. He reaffirmed his opposition to raising rates again in comments to reporters aboard his plane as he returned from a visit to Turkmenistan on Monday.

    >“I have never defended raising interest rates, I don’t now and will not defend it,” he told the reporters. “I will never compromise on this issue.”

“Nobody gets off Mr. Bones’ Wild Ride,” he added. “*Nobody*.”
