I know exactly why she’s mad about the Thatcher comparison. One of the main reasons for the Tories’ landslide victory in the 2019 GE was because of the Red Wall seats that usually voted for Labour deciding to vote for the Tories.
And this fact is bad for Truss. With all these media outlets pointing out her Thatcher cosplays and homages, its going to be noticed by the people in those Red Wall seats – with many of those being the same seats that got fucked over by Thatcher’s shit back in the 1980s. Even today nearly 40 years later, many people in those areas see Thatcher as the devil in human form, heck they made the “ding dong, the witch is dead” song from Wizard of Oz hit the top 10 when she died back in 2013.
So for them to see Truss cosplay as that person is gonna drive them away from voting for the Tories, and that’s why she’s frustrated by the comparisons to Thatcher – it can drive voters in those seats away from the Tories and if she can’t guarantee the Redwall seats for the Party, its gonna make the Tories’ job in the 2024 GE much harder and who will the Tories blame? Her. And when the Conservative Party starts hating or blaming you for electoral failures, you’re not gonna last too long – as seen with Boris.
Edit: Also, before you ask: no, I’m not sure why exactly Truss thought cosplaying Thatcher was a good idea, but let’s be honest she probably wasn’t thinking, which Truss and many other Tories have proven is something they do regularly.
