  1. I can never understand this.

Say the price had gone down from €2.10 to €1.78, and you are putting 60ltrs in the tank, thats a saving of €19.20.

People will drive out of their way and queue up for an hour to save €20, but think nothing of spending that on a round of drinks

  2. Reminds me of Belgard Road McDonalds when they have their free egg McMuffin promotion. Queue for 30 mins to 1 hour for something that is €2 the day before and after with no queue. People value their time very little….

  3. I find it sad how addicted people in Ireland have become to their cars. The amount of money and time wasted on them when you could live completely car free in all the other European capitals.

You can even rent a car or a moped for 10 cent a minute if you really need independent travel on the rare chance the extensive, frequent and reliable tram, metro, & bus service doesn’t work for you.

Just a complete disgrace that we haven’t evolved passed a third world transport system, and ultimately it affects the poor the most.

While the rich can be fulfilled by their BMW, their Land Rover & their Tesla, it’s the working poor struggling to afford and maintain a used Yaris that have a large percentage of the wages garnished from them. A car is the second most expensive thing you will ever have, just under rent or a mortgage. (if you’re lucky!)

Wouldn’t it be fantastic to free people from being forced to own and maintain one of these near constantly depreciating assets, just to live and be a part of their society / community?

Dublin is such a difficult city to live and socialise in when you’re hamstrung by the neglected public transport service that it almost makes living there not much more than existence. Nevermind the isolation that happens in rural towns, or even Commuter towns. Like those in Meath and Kildare probably feel like living in another country to those without the luxury of the environmentally selfish, needlessly expensive and socially detrimental personal motor vehicle.

  4. Hardly worth the time even if you’re on the light and have no petrol. Most of these people probably have 1/4 to 1/2 of a tank, and are saving five quid for an hour’s waiting. I swear people will obsess about saving a fiver on fuel or a few euro on electric by going cold and not using the dryer and then spend 50 quid on weed and 100 in the pub.

  5. I couldnt get to the gym this morning @ coonagh cross due to the back up going into applegreen.

To be honest I was only looking for an excuse anyway 😜

  6. “Petrol Station Owner” – Ive a great idea, lets drop all the prices and get hundreds of people out in there cars to sit there burning petrol , while they queue till our cheap petrol runs out!

  7. I spent a lovely week in Kerry and some time in Cork. Was leaving Castlemaine today when Applegreens announced the sale on fuel. People were doing u turns on the road in front of us to get back to small applegreen station on the side of the road. They were queuing for ages. I just couldnt be assed even if I hadnt already filled up for the trip back to Armagh. I would rather pay the 2.04 euro and be on my way.

  8. Just so people can compare – the equivalent ‘price per litre’ for electricity for an EV is about €0.30. Less if you have your own solar panels. Look after your petrol/diesel cars, they may be the last ones you ever drive.

  9. Jesus Christ this entire sub constantly bitching and whining about the price of things and then when some people go to make 20 quid in savings they chat shit about them. That 20 quid can get some people 2-3 days of dinners.

Same people in this sub would lose their shit then if they forgot to turn off the immersion costing themselves a few cents.

  10. There is absolutely no way I would queue up like that, taking up god knows how much time from my morning and using fuel to get there no less, to save 15 quid.
