The EU has already expanded far too eastward. The entry of Bulgaria and Romania made a mockery of the organization. But if this keeps Georgia out of NATO, go for it!
I’m 100% for Georgia. Like, how the hell is it still not accepted? Ukraine probably focuses on NATO though which will happen soon after they figure out the corruption issue.
I think rather the EU wants to be friends with benefits. I think Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova would gladly accept becoming members of EU. But it’s the EU that doesn’t want them.
Ukraine should be “friends with benefits”, but not a full EU member. It would buy us a war with the Kremlin, and I don’t think it’s worth the trouble.
Ukraine defends Europe from hordes from East by price of life of own soldiers. Europe is deeply concerned about Crimea occupation and continues to buy natural gas and oil from country that generates these hordes. Am I only person who don’t see benefits for Ukraine here?
Only if they give a good reacharound 🙂
> “If we shall not be able to provide those countries with some kind of new, bigger agenda for the next decade then we can face the problem that motivation for reforms in those countries will start to erode,” said Andrius Kubilius, a Lithuanian center-right member of the European Parliament and an early champion of the trio concept.
This mindset is a fundamental mistake. The motivation for reform should not be the ambition of EU membership but to truely improve their country. If it’s only done superficially for the purpose of EU membershp the reforms will not take root and we get ourselves another Poland/Hungary, which made the reforms to get in but started rolling them back once they were in and the EU has not tools do stop it.
Good guy Putin, makes all his neighbours love the EU and NATO.
I decline their friend requests.
They do know that meaning of “friends with benefits” is getting fucked?

Важна лишь степень искренности,
Я говорю тебе мысленное прости.
