I purchased a slightly used MacBook Air from buyZOXS GmbH (in Wesel) on 15/10/21. The invoice said the laptop had light signs of usage and no huge damages.
But the laptop had a huge dent on the corner. Since it didn’t affect the functionality, and since i saved €200 on mrp, i didn’t think it was a big deal. On 6.November the display stopped working properly. The backlight comes on but nothing is displayed on screen. The customer care rep from buyzoxs asked me to send it back to them. After almost 2 week i got back my laptop without any repairs being done (and with a large scratch across the back of the laptop which wasn’t present before) . The reason they gave was that laptop has a dent on its body (the same dent which was present since purchase, which was not caused by me). There is a sticker on one of the screws underneath the laptop which says “warranty void if removed”, due to this sticker i haven’t taken it to any apple certified service centre to get it fixed(still have apple’s warranty till February 2022). I suspect its just a faulty display connector.

I am an international student studying in Germany, i would really appreciate if someone could give me some suggestions.
Really sorry for such a long post, i tried to keep it as detailed as possible.

  1. I don’t understand what’s stopping you from taking it to Apple. You say the warranty is still good and the sticker is still intact, right?

  2. There was a court decision about a decade (or more ago) that those stickers are pretty much not binding. At least if you need to remove them for upgrading electronic devices with say another hard disk or RAM.

You should definitely have gotten in contact with the seller about the dent as soon as you got the MacBook – I can absolutely understand why they don’t want to repair it under warranty.

Technically the dent doesen’t make you lose your warranty. That would only be the case if the dent/damage can be “connected” to the malfunction.

  3. Did you buy it in Germany? Consumer law in Germany states that you have claims with the seller, not the manufacturer of the product. In that case, if you were to bring it to Apple, they will rightfully charge you for their services.
