Starbucks is reportedly considering selling its UK business

  1. I’d put my money on EuroGarages buying them if true.

EuroGarages already franchise them, and they tried to buy up Nero last year. They’re itching for their own coffee business.

  2. I can see why, popped into the office last week for a meeting, got a frappichino on the way in from Costa, was superb, salted caramel, could not recommend it enough. On the return trip due to coming in from a diffrent direction opted for the Starbucks frappi on the way back. FUCKING DISGUSTING! No idea if it was a bad barrista or what but it was like drinking sludge half the time.

  3. I would assume it’s because they haven’t been able to dominate in the same way as other markets. I’m from London but live in the US, and here Starbucks really are the only chain option, with local competitors being the
independent places or small regional chains. Whenever I go home to London I notice that we have Costa, Nero, Pret etc…obviously Starbucks is still a big name, but in my admittedly anecdotal view, they don’t seem to dominate the market in the same way.

  4. I’m ready to be downvoted into oblivion, but this is really disappointing if true. Hopefully jobs won’t be on the line.

My personal preference is independent coffee shops when available, but if chains are the only option then I like Greggs for a on the go coffee and either 200 degrees coffee (when I’m near one!) or Starbucks for a sit down coffee.

To me, Costa and Nero both taste burned – I would rather go without coffee than drink from either chain.
