Snakebites becoming more common in the UK

  1. Came across an adder at work earlier in the year. This is a large industrial complex with lots of people. They’re certainly not just hiding in unpopulated areas.

  2. As pretty as they are I just cannot imagine keeping venomous reptiles and would prefer to keep pets comfortably within my skill set. Good awareness around pets of all kinds is sensible and respect for wild animals is vital.

I have Royal Pythons and been bitten once, felt like a wet slap and you don’t feel the fangs go in. The fast movement gets your adrenaline pumping and the teeth are fine needles so slip in and out easily. Cleaning the wound hurt but I’d absolutely choose getting bitten by the snake over any rodent bite I’ve had as rat, gerbil and degu bites hurt so so much more.

  3. Fucking BBC, 300 in 11 years OMG!! People Died!!!(From bites from non UK snakes in captivity). Let’s hope people read all the way to the bottom about native species and don’t go out hitting adders with sticks. They don’t even break down how many of the bites came from native species.

  4. What a hogwash article.

“In the last 11 years medics have seen and treated 300 victims.”
