Not much west can do.
Russia has already got forward bases, logistocs postions and such established already. They only need a far shorter time ro go than thw west can deploy forces to stop them. Suplies and so are liekly already prepared.
Putin could be rolling into the sepertist zones in a matter of hours. Theyneill let them pass, and digging in. No onwe going to start ww3 and he keeeps anything behind his tank divisions.
The best is probbly to be ready to hold Ukrainian EU side border and be ready to hold them at that point.
