A quietly depressing story that is going to become much more common unfortunately. It’s almost as if life is just on a permanent downhill plummet at the moment.

That’s terrible! Building new homes during housing crisis?
> Derek Murtagh says members of the local pitch and putt club in Fairview were stunned when a planning permission application was filed in March that included developing **housing on part of their 18-hole golf course.**
Maybe we have a lot of homeless and young people are struggling to find place to live, but at least our golf course is grand!
I know this might seem like NIMBYism because it gets linked to housing and planning in the article, but it really is a massive problem in Dublin. There’s no space for community organisations or services and if there is they cost a bomb. Just normal things like parent and toddler groups or homework clubs are impossible to put on in some places as there’s no space.
Where I live in D8 is really horrendous for community spaces. There’s no full size GAA pitch or full size football pitch nearby. This is an area with thousands of kids living in it. Our community swimming pool which was part of the Kevin st DIT has been demolished to build apartments. A small pitch behind vicar st is being taken away … for another hotel. Boxing clubs that closed during COVID not reopening for lack of funding. Then people wonder why kids turn to bad behaviour. Kids in other areas have GAA or football to keep them busy in the evenings . Kids in my estate are told off by neighbours if playing with a ball past 8pm
