This is not only getting ridiculous but completely out of hand. My house is 160 square meters. I have quite a good salary but there’s no way I will be able to pay 1000€ a month on a regular basis. I know my house is not the best insulated one (1976). The roof is lacking insulation, only flat reachable a surfaces have been isolated, but we have insulated walls on the most exposed facades and new windows everywhere! Led everywhere and besides the kitchen hood, all appliances are recent and of the best quality possible. So, what the actual fuck am I supposed to do now? Rob a bank?

7000 kWh in 1 year for electricity?!
Electric car? Heat pump?
If you don’t have either of those I have no idea how your usage is that high or you must have a a family of 5-6
Any way you could cut consumption? Do you use gas for cooking or induction? Is the boiler up to date? Also the 1000€ might be meant to recover the dues that were accumulated for last few months.
Almost 20kWh a day. You run a weed plantation there?
Edit: gas consumption looks normal for poorly insulated 160sqm house, but can be further improoved by reducing the temperature to 18/19 and cutting of upper floor to 16.
Electricity is the place to be worried about. Look if your main box has no arc somewhere. It’s a loose connection where electricity is jumping. Don’t touch anything, just observe. Look for burns, noises etc. Turn appliances one by one and observe the box.
Also, electric space heaters can add up quickly, like one little space heater 1.5kW occassionaly used can make 1000kWh in a year without a problem. A little warm water boiler can add another 1000kWh. Run a TV for half a day – another 200kWh in a year.
Like others are saying, wtf are you doing with all that energy.
If you run a druglab, do it properly and cut before the meter 😉
I would get solar panels and thoroughly check all consumption. You’re using 3x average, so there must be room to save. Also, I think these monthly amounts are recommendations (based on your consumption) call them and work out a more affordable monthly bill, while turning down your consumption asap.
My house is from 1900 and lacking in isolation. 130 square meter. I got half your consumption 😀
I had 2,694 kWh gas consumption for the last 12 months and your bill shows 10 times as much. Something is very wrong here. Ask clarification how they calculated it and check your meter to see if it is correct.
OP you can refuse the augmentation of your provision, because it is a possible that Mega overevaluates you consumption and/or the evolution of the energy costs. I would still advise you to keep some money aside to pay the difference in case your consumption is greater than your provision when the regularisation arrives.

First of all check [mijnenergie.be](https://mijnenergie.be). There are cheaper alternatives (e.g a year cost of 5.800€ using your data with OCTA+, using Antwerp as location of residence).
Furthermore, it seems that there is a calculation error? €439 * 12 = €5200, not €2779 as they estimate for electricity. Similar thing in gas consumption.
@op, why aren’t you responding anymore? Explain your usage, man!
We have the same usage. Our big drainer was a jacuzzi. We have an airco, a hybrid and an electric car. Also an aquarium, someone pointed out that also uses a fair bit of electricity. So maybe OP doesn’t run a drug operation…
Peasant, just pay up fool. ‘our’ politicians know whats The best for you…
They fuck us up al The time without getting problems, and our voting does not count.
Just decline.
It’s pretty simple, either they made bad calculation (as they often do) or they want to protect you from a 5k bill at the end of the year.
Make your own estimates, put it in a friendly mail and decline the update. I did that and they were just like “Mhh, makes sense”.
Or, it’s actually correct and there is no point is complaining about Mega specifically.
Mega is bankrupt and they are charging out of the ass to pay for their bankrupcy
You must change your CV ketel and invest in insulation for your roof. Your verbruik is ridiculous.
Also, more than 7000 kwh electricity? Do you do weed?
Unless, of course, this is just a schatting and you live here for under a year, so no accurate gegevens are available yet.
Mega will go bankrupt soon. They keep raising the monthly fees to try to avoid it. Don’t stay, go for another or else your money will vaporize when they go bankrupt.

Tip use shelly devices to measure and control your devices remotely.
I automated my entire house with shelly devices, for example lights that are turned on with a push-button will be turned off automatically after a predefined time, and in the most used rooms I added a motion sensor to automatically turn on or of the light and even all my non essential devices on my desk that would be charging.
My gaming pc + monitor and all connected accessories uses 600W peak while playing and using the graphics card. When idle between 100 to 150W. Since I don’t game any more, thinking to sell that pc anyway and use my Surface laptop with a separate monitor, uses about 60 to 80W.
Tip for gamers or pc enthusiasts: migrate to a SSD only system, remove or disconnect conventional HDD which can continuously consume up to 10W when in use, or 5W idle simply when the pc is on. If you need storage to be permanently on, better use a NAS and let the HDDs hibernate when not in use.
If you leave the game running in the background it also keeps using 600W… So always make sure to close it lol.
I can all see this with a shelly 2.5 device that is connected behind my sockets and multiple circuits.
Also turn of your gascondensatieketel during summer as it uses up to 10W or more when simply on. As soon as it’s too hot to run the central heating, I turn it of via my phone in the Shelly amp. A few weeks before the colder season starts I just do a test run to see if everything still works, if not it gives me some extra time to call a plumber.
As for an electrical boiler, before I had a timer that was set to only activate it during the night hours 22pm till 7am. But I measured with a Shelly that I actually I only need a max of 4h per day to sufficiently heat the water every night, so I strictly limited the schedule so that I don’t overspend kWh for nothing.
Next step is using the water from the rainwater reservoir for toilets and hopefully also shower and washing machine, but during the latest renovation I’m not sure how the tubing was done any more so it could be a pain in the ass to search.
Also want a sprinkler system fully automated with Shelly to water plants in the small front garden during the night.
By then I’ll probably sell that appartment and move to a house to do the same including solar panels.
OP, how long do you live in this house? If less than 3 years it might be a skewed calculation based on average usage even before you are living there. If more than 3 years, I’d highly advise to cut whatever they’re suggesting in half.
Actually insane that we keep pumping money into these companies through voorschotbedragen. We are literally not obliged as a consumer to pay anthing higher than 35ish euros for a minimum voorschotbedrag. Utility companies =/= investment banks.
P.S. no adapted answer please, this is 2022
Jaarlijks onderhoud op uw gas ketel -15%
Elke graad minder -5%
Can someone translate column titles to english? I’m interested in following
Like others are saying there is something wrong with your electricity consumption, maybe get an electrician to check it out. Other than that, I was also a Mega client but when I got the facture de régularisation I decided to change to Engie, because Engie‘s unit prices, both for electricity and gas, are 10 to 20% lower than Mega‘s. Back in 2018 I had changed to Mega because of their very good rating on monelectricitéverte.be but by today their ranking has deteriorated a lot…
Mega are assholes. I’ve signed a fixed rate contract 2 years ago with them at 90€/month. Due to the increased prices, they’ve bumped it to 250€/month and made a new variable rate contract without even my signature or consent. They said « oh your contract was soon to be ended so we’ve made another contract since you didn’t contact us ». I told them they can’t make a whole new contract with other terms and conditions than which I’ve signed for without my consent – they’ve never replied, now here I am paying them 250€/month.
What are you doing in your house? These consumption rates aren’t normal. I just started renting a badly insulated 60’s apartment and I’m paying 100 euros..
It’s a lot, but you’re also using 3-4x more electricity than me.
I have a similar sized house with 2 kids and we consume around 15000kWh in heating + cooking (down from 19000kWh last year) and 2500kWh in electricity.
I think there are already a lot of comments regarding your electricity consumption (which seems crazy to me by the way, if 2 gaming rigs + 1 wine cellar consume 4500kWh/ year they are definitely not worth it).
Regarding your heating, how is your insulation? We did ‘spouwmuurisolatie’ this year and it was really low cost in the end (950€ – subsidies (around 350€)). We also have a Tado thermostat and valves all around the house to manage rooms individually (I don’t need my bathroom to heat up during the whole day, I don’t need my living room to heat up during the whole day etc.). If your roof is not isolated it might be interesting to do that (we did the floor of our attic because we didn’t use the attic).
7000kw for a small house is quite huge.
My former house was double the seize & I only had 3000kw night & 2000kw day consumption, 5 persons.
After I had solar panels installed this was reduced to 2200kw.
Now I live in a appartement. The Common Electra consumption is 12500kw
So that 7000kw is way to much & paying 1000€/month will be your way to go this decade, if U don’t chance things.
Got a loan and placed solar panels. Now paying less every month for solar panel loan than I would pay for electricity bill.
Why should you pay more gas than electricity? It makes no sense.
They did the same to me and I moved to another provider.
Now I pay 150€ less 👍
What are you heating or doing with that gas man?
26000 kWh ?? thats 2600 cubic metres per year…
I have a small (2 person) apartment and an office attached to it, total 160 sq metres, and I use ± 5000 kWh, which is already plenty, because of the office that needs to be heated 6/7 days.
**I would consider a check up up that gas-kettle.**
Electricity 7000kWh / year is my consumption too, but again, with the office (computers , airco in summer) that is about normal.
Do you by any chance have a little pond in the garden? Or check your heating system, since old circuits get updated, but sometimes there is an old circulation pump that is running 24/7. Same for the pond, could have a pump running 24/7.
If not make sure to do a check of turning all your fuses off, and then check if your meter is still running. If it keeps running, ask a professional to come figure out where the usage is coming from.
Good luck!
Welcome to the club. I told them to fuck off and immediately changed. I can’t afford 500€ per month for gas and electricity.
I’m now at 320€/m at Lampiris.
Europe is really fucking us in the ass. They decided to shut down nuclear which was the cleanest energy on earth and now they blame it on the Russian because they were like 85% depends on their gas…
Fucking fuck
