Gougane Barra

  1. > Oh, on Inishcarra and Gougane Barra,
on Macroom and on Omagh Town
God poured out air of a fragrance rare
    that gained them high renown
On King Williamstown He showered sweetness down,
on Lough Neagh and Glanlee and the lot
But those rare perfumes were all well consumed
by the time that he reached Drumsnot

A verse of Drumsnot by the late, great, Brian O’Rourke. Comes into my head now everytime I hear of Gougane Barra!

  2. I visited there in way back 2009. At the time, the public restroom proudly displayed an award for being the top public restroom in Ireland (I think). I believe I’ve got a picture of it.

Edit: I can confirm it was the “Ireland’s Top Toilet Award.” I have a picture but I don’t know how to post it.

  3. The corrupt ABP overruled the council & granted planning for wind turbines up on the hill, why the fuck do they need to be put there, might aswell throw a few up in Glendalough & beside Newgrange

  4. Lovely place but wouldn’t go back, me and the wife stayed the night and booked a window seat for the view while having dinner. They gave it away to a German family, on top of that all non Irish were giving a free Irish coffee at the bar. Quite a few years ago now.
