For a while now I have been looking to get a pet. I looked into the Humane Society here [https://www.hesy.fi/helsinki-humane-society-hesy-ry/](https://www.hesy.fi/helsinki-humane-society-hesy-ry/)

I filled out a form they asked for with a disclaimer saying they were too busy and would take a month to get back. But it’s been more than 6 months since I sent that form back.

I have looked at maybe a Facebook group or other options with no real lead on where to look.

Now I thought, I would ask here.

Any other places I should look at? Maybe a less bureaucratic way to adopt a pet? I live in Espoo. If that makes any difference.

Thanks for any advice.

  1. HESY is a scam, they’ve been under police investigation for misuse of funds etc.
Use FB or even google “adoptoi koira” in general.

Adopt, don’t shop, as you tried already.

  2. Have you checked spam? Because that time sounds like it’s gotten lost one way or the other. Might be it takes a while to have something suitable available, but at least with cats they still contact back

  3. You’re not the first one I hear complaining that Hesy never got back to them. People who I know who’ve adopted a dog have all received theirs from abroad though. The shelters in Finland don’t have that many dogs in them, so if you want a dog I’d look into international adoption. Cats are not so lucky and there’s a lot more homeless ones. You can visit the Hesy kissatalo to see them and maybe talk to someone in person. They also have a notice board where people post about their pets (again, mostly cats) looking for a new home due to change in living situation etc.
