Senator calls for inquiry into clinic closed over “safety fears”

  1. Having first hand experience with a trans child I can totally agree with her here. There is such a rush and a panic to get them seen too, even private services who will prescribe HRT after an hour’s counselling session.

Our 17 year old found one such service and to be honest it’s absolutely ridiculous that this happens. Changing gender is a life altering decision and should not be taken on a whim.

Our government needs to act to get guidelines in place, reduce the waiting list in Loughlinstown and make sure that people know what they are getting into going down this route.

You should not be able to medically transition until you are 18.

  2. Idk mate, anything the terfs are happy about closing can’t be too bad y’know

EDIT: I have been informed, it’s good it’s closing

  3. Can only be good news really.

Replacing one centre with a narrow focus and apparently bad practice around collecting evidence with multiple regional centres that will provide better access for Trans kids.

It’s not like this has been seen as some sort of loss by Trans people, they _wanted_ the regional model.

  4. Another social conservative trying to import the UKs culture war crap to Ireland.

I’m glad ireland already has the Self ID policy that British transphobes claim will cause problems, and have had it for 7 years without a single incident of the violence they claim will happen.

  5. Leave it out, Sharon keogan is a fucking nut-job who’s pushing anti-trans hatred here

She thinks there’s a gay conspiracy to take over government and that disabled kids should be micro-chipped like dogs.

(Edit: it’s also obvious that OP has no real concern for children here. This is basically an attack on trans kids and the whole thing is in bad faith to push a far-right wedge issue).

  6. You’d think she’d be more concerned about the absolute state of our trans healthcare here, the waiting lists, the fact that we have hardly any psychologists and endocrinologists qualified in trans healthcare, the fact that we are still outsourcing those who need GRS to a non-EU country, the fact that due to the obscene waiting lists many trans men are forced to go abroad to get top surgery.

Is she concerned with any of that? Absolutely not. Just another useless conservative who think that trans kids don’t exist.

Keogan is an absolute nutter. One of these who ran for “change” and ends up giving all her jobs to family members. Shouts down anyone who has opposing view of her in the Seanad chamber. Basically Ireland’s Sarah Palin. I’ll never forget when she called for disabled people to have GPS chips to be implanted in them.

  7. I don’t agree with transitioning children, but I dont believe removing treatment is a solution either. Certainly, at the very least they need Therapy for gender dysphoria. At the absolute minimum.

I’d say it’s a system that needs massive checks and balances, but I dont expect they’ll ever be enforced.

  8. Senator Keoghan is being repeatedly referred to as a nut job by the zealots on this thread. The irony of people that believe in pregnant men and women’s penises calling her a nut job.

The Tavistock is a disgraced institute that promotes chemical castration of children and the senator’s concerns are well founded.

  9. The amount of people here condoning “transitions” for kids is unreal. Surely, (outside of youth psychological supports) any blockers or surgical options should only become available when the person becomes 18? Then they are at least able
To make a fully informed decision. Kids don’t have the foresight that adults do to make these potential life changing decisions.
