I don’t imagine he gives the tiniest molecule of a shit at the moment. The new PMs didn’t make the promise so they won’t either. The country is being run by a snake that is eating itself.
As if the pledge was in any way realistic in the first place…just like all those new hospitals that are gonna be built
Boris didn’t care about fulfilling his promises before he was kicked out, what makes you think he’ll give the tiniest shit about it now? All he’s interested in at this point is rewarding his donors and pals with titles, lining his pockets, and living in a little fantasy bubble … so the same things he’s been interested in all along.
The money that the police earn is not in any way aligned to the job they do.
Add to this a lack of budget for training and progression and you can understand dissatisfaction.
If they would pay them a wage that continues to make their job attractive, and allow them to progress and learn, then they wouldn’t need to recruit so many as fewer would leave.
Sorry why are we not pointing out that even his ‘pledge for 20,000 new officers’ still doesn’t bring police up to 2010 numbers. Even if they hire the 650 odd officers per month they need (which they won’t) the country is still down on the day due to Coalition/Tory austerity. Cooking the books to make easy targets then not even keeping to those.
The worst part of this is the deskilling. You have new officers joining, whilst experienced officers are leaving. That experience is just disappearing.
The pledge was pure nonsense anyway as they removed 21,000 then only said this once they could no longer hide from soaring crime
Didn’t they cut thousands before this promise?
Ah Boris! The man who turned off the light of intelligence and respect upon England! The man who said the Brexit is something that the UK will benefit “tremendously” lmao
There is the other one, who owns the money printers and has a billionaire non domiciled waife who has many “friendly companies” who suckle on UKs generous… well, printed money and support lol
Remove 20,000 police
Pledge 20,000 police
Thanks just keep my money
Don’t worry about the pledge, please.
Baffling how he is allowed to remain in office.
Love how conservatives are usually frothing about law and order and crime, yet they’re the party that’s dismantling our police force and justice system.
As a lefty, I also like law, order and safety and not being beaten, robbed or murdered. Which is why I’d (drum roll) hire some fucking cops and boost pay. Tories take note of this radical marxist policy. /s
I’m a cop, currently working my notice period. I’m done with the police. I have worked for 14 years, and whilst it was fun at the start, less so these days but that’s probably because im old and fat.
I think the pay is reasonable, the conditions however is totally shit, late hours, no breaks, constant scrutiny by the public gets to you after a point.
That being said, I do enjoy it. I enjoy interviewing victims and suspects, investigating crime and following the leads is quite fun when you uncover something good. Locking up bad guys is a good day. It’s all the other stuff that is shit. The interface between police and cps has never been worse, they reject things for silly reasons, such as box not ticked on a form that is irrelevant.
I think the public would be disgusted at the amount of paperwork required to get a charging decision, and then the constant gdpr reactions, just incase the courts accidentally publicly share a dob of the suspect. It’s hours on hours of redaction, – this is uniform cops, and trained detective’s sitting there doing this administration work, just incase.
My pension has changed twice during my career, it’s not rubbish, but nothing like what people think it is. It’s career average salary, and I have to pay 14% or something.
You don’t understand a Boris pledge. As far as he’s concerned losing 40k but hiring 20k meets his pledge.
I’ll Never forget not long before the Manchester bombing the tories cut 20,000 police officers jobs.
A policeman from Manchester warned the then home secretary (Theresa may) that doing so would mean they would struggle to police the streets properly and avert terrorist threats. There was barely anything in the news about it.
Fast forward a few years and every publication and news service in the UK was raving about how the tories are going to add another 20k police officers and keep Britain safe. Easy way to garner support from the deluded old fossils and the brain dead nationalists with the memory of goldfish. They take us all for fools and unfortunately most of us are.
If 20,000 quit and he hires 20,000 new ones he will say he hit the pledge.
Countries a joke
This government is so incredibly passive. We have a major crisis in the country. The cost of living is skyrocketing, housing is at breaking point and we are struggling to find public services. And they have no ideas for how to try to address any of these problems. Literally chucking money at problems for short term relief – money we can’t afford.
At a time when we need visionaries we have shysters and the criminally incompetent.
ANY pledge fulfilled apart from those to his handlers?
Oh no. His reputation will be in tatters.
Let me just say, the face can change but it wont change a thing.
Boris Johnston pledges are written in smoke on the wind. Pure hot air emanating from smoldering bullshit.
But we will have a fast train from London to Birmingham
Retired a year ago after 28 yrs service. Decent pension as I was on the old scheme but still had a few years left to do. It had just become awful – awful leadership, political infighting, hiring people who clearly weren’t capable of doing the work or the hours to fill spaces. General lack of social politness from people who seemed intent in making the world a worse place – it became a battle that I didn’t want to fight anymore. Tory promises are all hot air and lies – Johnson’s endless piffle paffle was standard stuff to be ignored. I’ve been asked if I miss it or would I go back and honestly I’d rather stick hot spoons into my eyes and scoop them out than go back. Since leaving my mental health and physical health have massively improved, my weights dropped, I sleep better, I spend a load of time with friends and family and enjoy many hobbies which I’d only been skimming over before. I actually feel satisfied that life is good and not an endless slog of lies and bullshit with an occasional smile to look forward to. And anyway why would anyone join now? It’s awful work with ok money and the promise of non-life of your own due to endless “rest days cancelled – you have to come in”. My last chat with ex colleagues confirmed it – day three of forced 12 hr shifts with 2 hr commutes either end and nothing but more to follow. Fuck that with a stick.
Not a danger as it was never going to happen.
His pledge to pretend his new police officers will be new and not just replacing the 20,000 cut by austerity. God damn Tory lies are gonna be the death of this country.
It’s the same with GPs, I used to work in the GP School and we were given ridiculously high figures to aim for to churn out newly qualified GPs. But there’s so many quitting from the job or going part time, it’s impossible to hire fast enough.
Plus the government keep refusing newly qualified GPs visas if they do want to stay (almost all of them) and GP trainees are the most stressed and mentally ill of all the qualified doctors training in a specialism.
Police officers starting today earn around £7k less than if they started in 2013.
I wouldn’t dare do a police job for the pennies they get paid.

[Why are you still talking? I activated Susan!](https://youtu.be/eliA2rEqzgQ)
Really hard job for shit money and mostly just get grief from the public when on duty and online – why would anyone want to do it at the moment?
I don’t blame them, I couldn’t deal with the shit they get from the general public or the treatment they get from their employers.
Party of law and order? Party of lawlessness and chaos is closer the mark!!!!
