Most watched women’s game ever! Also, highest rated show this year until the WC Final, I guess.
I was one of them. And it was a great game.
Genuinely one of the most heartwarming stories of the summer, and lord have we needed it lately
Proves all those people claiming no one watches women’s football wrong
All good and that but i’d rather see the mens team win, it’s not exactly the same competition.
Everybody pretending they are right into woman’s football these days to be part of the current thing
Guess that means Sky or BT will snap it up next time, it being free to air is going to have helped a ton.
I caught the end of it. Was a thrilling extra half. When they won though, as crazy as the team were rightfully going, I was kind of surprised at how….moderated, the reaction in the crowd was? Some claps, some cheers, but if the men’s team had won the Euros, Wembley would be *destroyed.*
I have to wonder if women’s football more than being womans football is football completely without hooliganism. And that on its own is a refreshing change.
What happens for news to qualify as ‘breaking’?
Why do I have to scroll past a giant rectangle for some stories but not others?
As a non football person, I am really happy for the team and their supporters and really sad that this will now mean lots more football everywhere.
I recognised Adidas, Visa, Volkswagen and Nike from the sponsors board. The rest were unknown to me.
Those sort of figures will obviously be of interest to other sponsors and commercial channels. I assume the BBC have the rights to the 2023 World Cup, but the future could see joint bids, greater coverage and greater income.
The future looks (Millie) bright.
Plenty of years that would be the highest rated programme of the year.

Worth noting that the 17.3m doesn’t include people who watched on streaming services:
> There were a further 5.9 million streams of the game on the BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app.
