Fuel tax cut in UK among lowest in Europe, RAC says

  1. I mean, that’s a point of pride, surely?

If we want to help the poor there are better ways to do it than making fossil fuels cheaper.

  2. It was always a pointless tax cut.

If the public will pay £1.95 for fuel, that is what they will be charged, how much of that goes to the government is somewhat irrelevant.

Not only that but the biggest beneficiaries are those who do high mileage in gas guzzlers and the worst beneficiaries are those who can’t even afford to own a car in the first place.

The tax should stay on fuel and be redistributed through the council tax and welfare systems to people who need it.

  3. Its because they are using the tax from fuel to fill the gap made by all the fucking shit economic decisions they made over the last 12 years.

Brexit has been a huge financial shitstorm, and they know they can’t afford it.

  4. It wasn’t even a cut the increase in price increased the VAT by more than 5p. VAT is charged at standard rate for fuel.

  5. The government has done away with most of our manufacturing and export products whilst raising tax to compensate. The only reason we are a wealthy country is because the government bleed their citizens dry. The UK has nothing to offer the world apart from London being a finance hub.

  6. I see this as a purely symbolic and empty gesture of no substance that will not help to the people who really need it.

Government trying influence commodities prices will not work imho.
Energy companies would just put up prices.

I think we should keep raiding fossil fuel companies profits. Speed up the electrification of transport would help us all better in the long run
