Stone map of Ireland; each county represented by a local stone

  1. That’s up in Donegal isn’t it? Somewhere near Killtbegs or Glencolumcille. Remember driving past and going back for a look

  2. When I moved to Ireland (West Galway) 30 years ago I learned that Granite gives off radon gas. Good times.

Galway east of the corrib is all Limestone though.

  3. I like it, it would be cool if they put the same design on wood and sold it like a souvenir. What’s the process called when burning a design in wood?

  4. Comments give me the impression that not everybody had this in the main area of their secondary school. What happened to the money pipeline where we couldn’t afford jack for the curriculum (and for out of curriculum, go screw yourself) but the school was able to put up something like this? Now I’m paranoid it’s a fake… didn’t look nearly as nice as this

  5. It should be noted as well that each stone was created individually by different artists local to their specific county. This explains the varying artistic choices and differing styles since it was a collaboration, not an individual commission.

  6. Is Dublin’s just a grey strip saying ‘Duibhlinn’? Could’ve done more with the Norse theme like in Waterford’s case. The house of Uí Ímair banner would’ve suited.
